SSO Frequently Asked Questions

What is Single Sign On (SSO)?

GE Single Sign On (SSO) is a company-wide security and navigation feature designed to allow users to securely sign on and move between GE's Web sites.

As a security feature:

SSO allows you to set your own SSO Password that you may change online at any time.

Your SSO Password is a combination of letters, embedded numbers and special characters that you may reset only by answering one Challenge Response that you establish (see What is a Challenge Response? for more information).

Single Sign On Key Terms

SSO = Acronym for GE Single Sign On.

SSO account = Your SSO account refers to your SSO User ID and Password. For access to this site, your SSO Password authorizes your access to the site and has the same effect as your signature.

SSN = Social Security Number. You will use your SSN and your PIN to register for SSO, if you forget your SSO User ID and Password, to make certain transactions on this site, and to access certain IVRs/VRUs.

PIN = Personal Identification Number. A four-digit identification number that you establish through the GE Transaction Processing Center. Prior to SSO, you've used your PIN to access your personal account information on this site and through automated phone systems. You will use your SSN and your PIN to register for SSO, if you forget your SSO User ID and Password, to make certain transactions on this site, and to access certain IVRs/VRUs.

IVR/VRU = Integrated Voice Response/Voice Response Unit. Many call centers, including the GE Transaction Processing Center (TPC) and Payroll Self-Services, use these systems to allow you to obtain information or process transactions using your SSN and PIN.

TPC = GE Transaction Processing Center.

Cookie = A cookie is a very small data file that is placed on your computer and is used to recognize you when you sign on or return to a site. As a security feature, the cookie is active only during your browser session or until you log off. Unauthorized users may use your browser to access your personal information if you step away from your computer without closing your browser or logging off.

Do I still need my PIN?

Yes, you will still need your Personal Identification Number (PIN), which you established through the GE Transaction Processing Center and provides you with access to your personal account information.

You will use your PIN and your Social Security Number (SSN) to register for SSO and if you forget your SSO User ID and Password. You will also continue to use your PIN (combined with your SSN) to perform certain transactions on this site or through IVRs/VRUs.

How do I change my SSO account (SSO User ID and Password)?

The Modify Account menu on the sign on screen allows you to update your SSO account at any time.

Simply select from the options in the menu and enter the required information. You will receive a system-generated e-mail message confirming the changes you made to your account.

Please note that you are not able to change your SSO User ID, as it is a pre-assigned GE Identification Number. However, if you forget your User ID, you may retrieve it by selecting Forgot SSO User ID (you will need your Social Security Number and Personal Identification Number (PIN)).

What is a Challenge Response?

Challenge questions are three special questions that you will answer during the SSO registration process. The answers you provide -- your Challenge Responses -- will be used as a confirmation if you need to reset your Password, so it is important that you remember the answers you provide during registration. Your Challenge Responses need only follow the guidelines for character length (outlined during the registration process). You are the source for the data you provide and it will only be used for Password reset.

If you are already signed on to another SSO-enabled application, this site will require confirmation of your SSO Password before allowing access. This is to ensure the security of your personal information.

Password Challenge requirements for other SSO applications will be determined by each individual business.
