A majority of American adults thinks President Trump has little or no respect for the democratic traditions in the U.S., according to a new poll.

The Associated Press/NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll finds 65 percent of respondents think the president has little or no respect for the country's democratic institutions or traditions.

Only 34 percent of Americans think Trump has a great deal or a fair amount of respect for them.

The poll also finds that 64 percent of Americans don't approve of the job Trump is doing a president, compared to just 35 percent who approve of the president's job performance.

Sixty-six percent of Americans disapprove of the way Trump is handling the issue of healthcare. And 64 percent disapprove of the way Trump is dealing with climate change.

Majorities of Americans also disapprove of the way the president is handling the issues of foreign policy, immigration and the economy.

Sixty-five percent of Americans believe the country is on the wrong track, according to the poll.

The poll was conducted from June 8 to 11 among 1,068 adults. The margin of error is 4.1 percentage points.

The president has been facing a series of controversies in recent weeks related to the probe into Russian meddling in the U.S. presidential race.

The poll was conducted before the shooting Wednesday at a congressional baseball practice, after which the president called for unity in a statement delivered at the White House.
