What is a prototype?

A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:

Proof of Concept

Explorations that test ideas and functionality.

Functional Prototype

Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.

Appearance Prototype

Looks like the final product, but is not functional.

Design Prototype

Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.

Production Prototype

Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.

About this project

The core of Project Boon is a collection of inspirational quotes meticulously selected and frequently maintained by our team.

Gifting or Sharing in Project Boon is what makes Project Boon unique.  The feature is based on the principle of "everything happens for a reason."

As the user browses through the list of quotes, he/she has the option to "gift" the quote to someone (thus the name "Boon").  Unlike sending email, where the sender knows exactly who the message is going to, Gifting in Project Boon is the exact opposite: the sender has no idea who the recipients will be.  The sender simply sends the gift to the Universe via Project Boon's cloud.  The cloud then randomly selects a recipient for each gifted Boon.  Whoever is meant to receive the message will receive it.  The gift could go to a complete stranger within the Project.

To complete the cycle, the recipient has 3 choices to accept it and let the sender know how the gift has affected them:

  • Thank You: The recipient appreciates the message.
  • Inspirational: The recipient finds the message inspiring
  • Great Timing: The message arrives and is what the recipient needs at the time

(This is a future feature)

Facebook has "Friends," Google Plus has "Circle" and Project Boon has "Galaxy."

This networking idea is similar to how the real galaxy works in the universe.  People are drawn to a user by his/her positivity/influence, much like the gravitational pull of a star.

Once a user's galaxy has grown into a certain size, he/she can make his/her own quotes and send them directly to the members.  If that quote is perceived positively by his/her galaxy, the quote will be promoted to the main list of quotes to help inspire the rest of the Project Boon community.

Unlike the rest of the social network, Project Boon has an achievement element.  As the users are having positive exchanges with each other, they are actually working toward different levels of achievements.

Risks and challenges

Uniqueness: The unique nature and approach of Project Boon might be hard for the mainstream users to accept. We hope to address this challenge via advertisements and users recommendations.

Maintain users' interest: Many apps in the market in recent years were what we call the "one-hit wonder." Their popularity was similar to a fashion trend. As soon as the trend faded, no one ever heard from them again. The Project Boon team hopes to maintain the platform's long-term presence in the market by steadily introducing "value-add" features that will encourage users to contribute to the community positively.

Development-To-Market speed: With limited capital, Project Boon is supported by a rather compact team which handles various elements of development. We hope the growing popularity of Project Boon can soon produce enough revenue to sustain the team long term.

Competition: There are plenty of "good will" platforms and apps. It is important for the Project Boon team to maintain its niches and persevere through challenges presented by the competition.
