I know people that take this a gospel; it's ridiculous.

What the hell is Prager University? Google doesn't turn up anything besides youtube videos. Is it just the name of a channel or is there some sort of fly by night school here?

Is it just the name of a channel

Yes, pretty much. From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dennis_Prager

In 2009, Prager started a website, Prager University, offering five-minute videos on various subjects such as the Ten Commandments, the minimum wage, the Middle East, Global warming, and happiness with a conservative perspective.[7] Video contributors are varied and include columnists George Will and Bret Stephens, British historians Paul Johnson and Andrew Roberts, American Enterprise Institute President Arthur Brooks, former Prime Minister of Spain José María Aznar, several university professors, and Prager himself.

According to Prager, he created the site to challenge the "unhealthy effect intellectually and morally" of the American higher education system.[8] In 2016, fifteen of these videos have been partially censored as "restricted" by YouTube.[9]

TL;DR: it's a hyper conservative think-tank/propaganda machine that pumps YT videos out. They often find morally bankrupt people from traditionally non-republican demographics to parrot their narrative.

To be honest, I do think it is a little unfair that if a Republican/right-wing association has no black people, the group is considered racist. But if they have some black people, the black conservatives are dismissed as Uncle Toms. Same thing goes for Latino, Asian, and gay conservatives.

That being said, I think it is important to consider why the vast majority of non-white and LGBT Americans hate the Republican Party (to a lesser extent, women too, as every Republican presidential candidate has lost the female vote since the 1980s). Similarly, Republicans should address why so many white supremacists like them.

When something is straight up racist and has a token black person, it is entirely fair to accuse them of Uncle Tomism. That's what that is.

Speaking as a minority myself, I also think Dems need to take a look at why minorities support them, because the matter of fact is that a lot of times, from what I've seen, minorities only support them because they happen to nominally be nicer and more acknowledging of minority issues. There's different reasons why minorities might be right-wing and pro-GOP, ranging from disillusionment with the Dems/left-wing ("They both don't care about minorities, but at least the GOP is honest"), to actually being conservative on most issues, and so on. Moreover, even left-leaning or pro-Dem minorities might hold a variety of conservative views - for example, from personal observation, though this is likely coincidence, almost all of the pro-life people I've met in real life are liberal women (many pro-choice people I've met are women too; men seem to not be as vocal about this issue irl from my experience). Like many people in the States in general, minorities can be centrists overall I think.

Minorities do support Dems for now, but the Dems can't take that support for granted. I feel as if a number of minorities, myself included, often see debates about minorities - and politics in general - as the purview of white people. As an Asian, I've noticed many of my Asian friends, even super leftist ones, see, say, mainstream debates on race as just a contest between upper-middle class whites to circlejerk each other. I don't think that this is something white liberals quite understand on more than an intellectual level from my discussions with them, but that's understandable. I don't really know what it's like to live as a white liberal either.

I'm not sure where I'm going with this. But I guess my point is that minorities may vote for Dems in droves, and may indeed tend to have left-leaning views, but as said above many people take it for granted. The Dems are getting better at being more than having just token concern, but we'll see how they and the GOP fare in the future. The GOP needs to know why minorities don't vote for them if they want more minority votes, and the Dems need to know why minorities actually vote for them (rather than assume it's just a given) if they want to retain those minority votes.

(For reference, since it's good to know where people are coming from, my own views are probably center-left with a few more left and few more right views here and there, and I come from that rare breed of a strongly left yet anti-commie Viet family.)

the fact that roger stone gets to trot his ass out on CNN and spew this same bullshit without people calling him on it is mind boggling to me. i hate that we live in a world where everyone has to have a background in history and geopolitics because half of the people involved in the discourse are perfectly willing to just lie their asses off about shit.

What's up with prager univ? All their stuff seem to be plain agenda pushing in guise of academic videos.

[–]Le_jack_of_no_trades 2 ポイント3 ポイント  (0子コメント)

That's the point; not an actual university

[–]nukefudgeAgent Miluch (Big Smithsonian) 2 ポイント3 ポイント  (1子コメント)

What even is Prager University?

PRAGER UNIVERSITY IS NOT AN ACCREDITED ACADEMIC INSTITUTION AND DOES NOT OFFER CERTIFICATIONS OR DIPLOMAS.

Oh.

So it's like one of those ice booths that don't sell ice cream.

Doesn't debunk it except by asking a rhetorical question about an event that happened six months ago

It's really scary that she's a political science professor.

I'll be honest, whenever I see an educated white guy spouting this sort of nonsense, I assume they're just being willfully intellectually dishonest for their own benefit. I can't wrap my mind around how an educated black person could get led down this path.

[–]yoshiKUncultured savage since 476 AD 2 ポイント3 ポイント  (0子コメント)

And is there an actual historical problem with the video? The southern strategy can easily be accounted for by noting that, a) Nixon was after the historical portion of the video stops and b) the video only talks peripherally about the GOP.

Hot take: Both major American political parties are fundamentally imperialist and racist, and this is more accurate than centerist liberals feel comfortable admitting.

When I first came across the channel, I didn't know who Dennis Prager was and I honestly thought it was an acreddited university. I had to find out for myself what a sham it was.

The worst part is there are people out there who might still think its an actual institution of learning and not the mouthpiece of some rught wing nutjob
