What is AP mode connection? |
The AP mode connection is the way for the Xiaomi 1080P smart IP camera to directly connect to a mobile device (phone, tablet PC) without internet requirement if they are in the same LAN, which means the camera and phone need stay into the same WLAN / WiFi network. Through this AP mode connection, you can control and view the real-time monitoring images on the phone. But the maximum effective distance between the two devices is 10 meters.

Step 1. Prepare the essentials you'll use during the connection.
Take out the Xiaomi 1080P smart IP camera, USB power cable and the card pin from the package box, and prepare a power charger, a power bank, or a power supplied PC / laptop.
Step 2. Connect the IP camera to power source.
Connect the IP camera and USB power cable, then connect the cable's USB end to the power charger and plug the charger into a power socket, or directly plug the USB end to a power bank's or the PC/laptop's USB port, to supply the power to run the IP camera. When the camera starts to work, the LED indicator light on the camera's back will light.
Step 3. Install the connection app - Mi Home.
Search and download the Mi Home application from the Google Play store, Apple store, or from its official website (only Android available) on your phone, and install it on your phone (I use my iPhone as the example here).
Step 4. Sign in the Mi Home app.
Launch the Mi Home app and log in your Mi account to enter the app operating interface. If you don't have a Mi account before, you can choose to sign in the app with your Wechat account or Facebook account. Alternatively, you can create a Mi account by pressing the Sign up option. Follow the guide to finish the register, then sign in app.
Notice: Make sure you set the location as Mainland China, otherwise, the Xiaomi IP camera is not available to find in the Add device list.
Step 5. Add device.
After you access the Mi Home app with your account, tap the right top "+" button to choose Add device option. Then you can see that there are two Xiaomi 1080P smart IP camera's selections, which is because the Xiaomi 1080P smart IP camera has two connection ways - the AP mode and Remote mode (there are some Chinese characters inside the app which cannot switch to English version).
Step 6. Choose AP mode to connect the devices.

Then operate as the according to the operation guide directs - stick the card pin into the SETUP hole until you hear the clash sound, and then the camera will play a Chinese audio to notice you the IP camera is ready to be connected. Step 7. Connect to the AP connection wireless network.
After the last step, the IP camera will release a WiFi signal called isa-camera xxxx, like what the guide says, tap the green button to go to your phone's WLAN setting, find out the isa-camera xxx SSID and connect to it.
Step 8. Set a password for the AP connection wireless network.
This SSID is unlocked with a password, so once your phone has connected to it, you will be notified to set a 8 letter access PIN code for it, which can prevent other people access to the SSID and peep your privacy through the IP camera. Simply set a password and tap the OK button to confirm.
Step 9. Access the AP connection wireless network with password.
After the password is successfully set, the connected isa-camera xxx WLAN network will break that you need to connect to it again with the password. Tap Set Wi-Fi now button, the interface will automatically switch to the phone's WLAN setting interface. Tap the isa-camera xxx SSID there and input the pin code to join it.
Step 10. Start to use the IP camera.
Once the connection successfully finished, tap Change to AP mode button, then you can see the AP mode Xiaomi 1080P smart IP camera is listed under My devices, and it's at the online state. Simply tap the icon, then you can see the current real-time images that captured by the IP camera on your phone.
