President Trump did not tweet during former FBI Director James Comey's Senate testimony Thursday, surprising many onlookers.
Speculation ran rampant that Trump may speak up via social media to rebut Comey's testimony about the president's conversations with the since-fired FBI chief.
The president reportedly planned to watch the hearing alongside his legal team and top advisers.
The Washington Post reported Trump didn't plan to "put down Twitter" during the hearing if he felt a need to respond to Comey.
During the hearing, Comey told Sen. Dianne FeinsteinDianne FeinsteinTrump doesn't tweet during Comey testimony Comey: ‘Lordy, I hope there are tapes’ CNN honors DC's 'Badass Women' MORE (D-Calif.) he believed he was fired because of the FBI's investigation into Russian election interference
“I don’t know for sure," Comey said when asked why he believes he was fired. "I take the president at his word that I was fired because of the Russian investigation.”
Trump has previously attacked Comey on Twitter after firing him last month:
James Comey better hope that there are no "tapes" of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!
