Trust me I'm aware of that, just saying that a job can potentially be more than trading a third of your life time against a salary. That's what we should strive for.

I am, nothing yet. But hopefully I'll find something I'm passionate about soon.

I sincerely wish you good luck in that. I simply cannot for the life of me comprehend how what you're describing could even theoretically be possible, but perhaps it is for you.

Oh but it very much is possible! Much harder for some personalities than others (our types specifically, I'll give you that, Ne can be a bitch when it comes to staying motivated/interested, and Te is generally valued so much more than Ti...) but still, there always are ways.

It's not all up to us though. The political/educational system we live in could potentially help us a great deal in finding a suitable and interesting job for every single one of us, and currently is absolutely terribad.

It gets old real quick. I feel so much better after I work a full day then I do just sitting around. I have no idea what I would want to do ideally. Something that pays well.

Lmao! What life are you living? That's utter freedom for me. I have so many things that I want to do but I cannot due to being in the lower levels of this capitalistic society. I could study philosophy without worrying about university costs, travel to Australia or go sightseeing in Ireland, practice fun sports and experiment with new technologies, go to space or travel the depths of the oceans..... Man, that would be total freedom. I don't need some job for my life to have meaning. That's just sad imo

some people find meaning in their work. i know a lot of college instructors or professors that love doing research, teaching. i know people who work full time for peace corps and think it's great. people who work at non profits and who are passionate about serving others.

it seems like you think having a job at all implies your life has no outside meaning. or that all jobs aren't meaningful. you could very well have a meaningful job and a meaningful outside life.

Yes but the lack of a steady job shouldn't be a hindrance to anyone. I acknowledge that people have different views, feelings and ideologies than I do but that guy seemed as if he were genuinely repulsed by having true freedom. Economic freedom doesn't mean that I wont work, it means that I don't have to slave at a 9-5 or flip burgers at McDonald's simply to survive. I can do what I feel is best for me and whatever brings me happiness

ok, thanks for clarifying. i think your views of freedom are different, too. you want to have freedom to expand your mind and explore, i think this person relates freedom to just being a couch potato. maybe their job allows them to exercise their mind quite a bit.

i agree with you, though, i don't think anyone should have the quality of their mental wellbeing or their curiosity squashed by being stuck in a horrible job.

My dream job is a full-time writer/novelist. I have always been interested in teaching, but I really think I want more flexibility and the ability to march to the beat of my own drum. Stories have a huge impact on how people think about the world and I am MUCH better at articulating my thoughts through writing.

Now if I could just focus and stop procrastinating I might be able to accomplish it.

Dream job: principal of my own school or sitting on the national board of education to influence the national curriculum.

I have a vision. I have a vision about schools, what school is, and what role a school plays in a civilized society. Educational leadership is a position of not just immense power, but immense responsibility. My dream job is whatever position from where I can leverage influence over not just a class, but a generation. A principal wields the aim of a whole school; that would be a dream job. But I can imagine even higher positions in the administrative ladder from where I can leverage even more influence. Not because I'm drawn to power, but there are things that I see as having to be done, get done, for a better future. Those are the only positions from where to wield the power to bring those things into existence.

I'm a Finnish teacher in philosophy, ethics and psychology. US high school and Finnish gymnasium are quite different things though, so don't base this on what you know about US high schools. Being a teacher is a respected profession here, much like being a doctor or lawyer, and that goes doubly for principals. Following graduation next autumn, I'll be jumping straight into leadeship studies alongside my first years of employment in order to get on that path. Ever since I was in high school myself, I've had the burning desire to formulate the guidelines for what I think is essential in pedagogy, what a school's purpose is, the values that it embodies, and so on. The dream is to not inspire a class, but a generation, even to the point where I'd meet a Socratic fate; being sentenced to death by the state for corrupting the youth, haha. That would be the dream.

My most realistic path is working as a teacher, studying leadership for a principal position, then see if I can compile a Ph.D. using my experience in educational leadership. The Ph.D would serve as the philosophical and pedagogical foundation on which to perhaps even ground my own school. However, I'm more of a doer than a researcher so we'll see how that will turn out. If all that fails, then I'll probably be working my way up the administrative ladder until I reach the national board of education. From there, I can leverage influence over the national high school curriculum, the values it embodies, what is taight in schools, etc.

Being able to go and hang out with, take care of and maintain animals all day, and build that bond with them, is the dream. But I also like to have some position of responsibility. Lol wanna talk stereotypes? I'm an ENFJ nanny dreaming about motherhood. My job is literally about anticipating and meeting needs and trying to help kids grow to be the best versions of themselves they can be. It's so fascinating seeing how they each have unique personalities that respond to different styles of caregiving and adjusting my expectations and communication style accordingly. I also love when I can tell that I made a positive impact in their lives. The oldest one is four and he's incredibly bright but struggles with being very sensitive emotionally so I developed a simple repetitive system that gave him three concrete steps to take when he gets upset to avoid having a meltdown. He used to break down crying all the time when someone did something he didn't like, but now he'll take a deep breath and use his soft words to communicate the problem and the house has been so much more harmonious and he seems so much happier <3 I just really love my job idk

Just to get meta for a moment, I find it fascinating that there are basically two kinds of people: those who enjoy working or at least don't feel accomplished without working and generally want to combine their work and play, and then those who don't enjoy working and will likely keep their work and play separate. Like, I guess the question is would you like to be paid to do your hobby? And if you say no, then chances are it's because you don't like the idea of work. Like, I basically keep my work life and my home life entirely separate. I program for a living, so I don't have the energy to program at home anymore. Likewise, I don't think I could do any of my hobbies for a living because it'd kill the enjoyment from doing them all the time and having expectations put on me.

I guess if anything I wish I could basically sell ideas.
