Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT) has spent months calling out President Donald Trump as “dangerous,” “demented” or “completely delusional.” He’s sick of what he calls “the Donald Trump reality show” and admits he’s at the end of his rope with the new president’s immature behavior.

“You need to be about 9 years old in your social development to understand when your neighbor, friend, brother, sister, which is what the British are to us have suffered a great tragedy,” Himes told CNN’s Alisyn Camerota. “The only decent response is to say ‘I’m terribly sorry’ and ‘how can I help.'”

He went on to say that Trump completely didn’t understand what the mayor was saying when he said that he didn’t want Londoners to be alarmed. He was talking about the increase in security and police with large weaponry on the streets, the lawmaker said.

“This is the reason I use the word dangerous. I sit on the intelligence committee so I spend a lot of time thinking about those who would do us harm,” Himes said. “These are very smart people who watch us closely. They just saw the president of the United States respond to an attack in Britain less appropriately than as I said a 7- or 8-year-old would respond. Now they are thinking to themselves, ‘what if we did this in the United States, could we count on the president to act in such a way that the American public — would he act responsibly or not.’ The answer is, of course, he would not react responsibly.”

Himes noted that he’s been calling out Trump for years now. From fact-checking speeches and policies, Himes explained that the most concerning thing for him is that the media is ignoring that Trump’s tweets are a glimpse into his mind. CNN had spent the morning discussing whether the tweets were official statements or not but Himes said that they’re even more than that.

“The mind that we see in this person who occupies the Oval Office is not the mind of somebody that we want in charge if this country is hit with a terrorist attack,” he said.

Himes went on to say that he’s never agreed on much with former President George W. Bush but that he responded to 9/11 with dignity. He has no hope Trump would be capable of that.
