Filling the massive void of U.S. leadership left by Donald Trump in the wake of unspeakable terror attacks in London, Hillary Clinton stood up on Monday to show the world what a real U.S. president sounds like.
In remarks at a fundraiser for Democratic Congressman Elijah Cummings’s youth program, Clinton stood up for London Mayor Sadiq Khan, commending his “leadership” in the face of a crisis.
“It is time for steady, determined leadership like we are seeing from London’s mayor and local authorities,” Clinton said, hinting at Trump’s erratic and irresponsible behavior following the recent attacks.
In another contrast to Trump, the 2016 popular vote winner said we need to band together with our international allies to defeat this threat, not become further divided by it.
“This is a time for us to reach out to the world, to understand more about what is happening,” she said. “This is not the time to lash out, to incite fear, and use trash talk and terror for political gain.”
As Clinton said, times of crisis call for steady and responsible leadership, not erratic and alarmist behavior. After all, that’s exactly what those committing such terror all over the world want – a knee-jerk response
And that’s what Donald Trump gave them this morning in a series of unhinged tweets when he attacked the mayor of London – a man who is doing his best to calm the fears of the people he represents.
“Pathetic excuse by London Mayor Sadiq Khan who had to think fast on his ‘no reason to be alarmed’ statement,” Trump said in one of the tweets, which followed an earlier tweet in which he attacked Khan for trying to keep his people calm.
“At least 7 dead and 48 wounded in terror attack and Mayor of London says there is ‘no reason to be alarmed!'”, Trump said.
This type of behavior from anybody following a terror attack is uncalled for, but it’s disturbing coming from the supposed leader of the free world.
Hillary Clinton’s remarks today showed the world what American leadership looks like, while Donald Trump continues to do his best to make the United States the laughingstock of the world.
