I’m slowly reaching the conclusion that
- Capitalism is necessary and useful as a system for allocating resources;
- Capitalism is woefully inadequate as a system for allocating resources;
- Capitalism is often amoral or evil, and an implement of kyriarchy.
I think my current political position can be best summarized as Socialist Libertarian: I believe that incentives are important, that government is often evil, that we should have strong priors against government involvement; and that government must intervene in the economy to provide basic safety nets, regulate trusts, and various other things.
Basically, capitalism is the worst economic system except for all the others, and we should compensate for its worst parts without disrupting the good parts.
I think there are systems strictly superior to capitalism, and we need to use it to progress to those systems.
Also, money is a really good unit of coercion.
