The infamous blue screen of death turned out to be fairly literal for one unfortunate Dell PC, after its disgruntled owner decided to fire eight rounds into it using a 9mm handgun.
Lucas Hinch had been having problems with his Dell XPS 410 for a while before deciding to put it down earlier this week. Police arrived on scene after hearing the gunshots, for which Hinch received a ticket and a summons to appear in court.
Discharging a firearm within city limits is a misdemeanor in Colorado Springs, where the event took place. Hinch had his 9mm Hi-Point pistol confiscated, but told the LA Times that it was totally worth it.
"It was glorious," he said. "Angels sung on high."
While Hinch took safety precautions before destroying the computer – he says he made sure nothing would ricochet or get caught in the crossfire – we still don't recommend resorting to weapons to take care of malfunctioning technology.
For those wondering, the Dell XPS 410 runs on a dual-core Intel processor, Nvidia GeForce 7900GS, and has 2 GB of RAM. Hinch's particular model was from 2012.
May it rest in peace.
