As much as I enjoy transfer season, I Fucking hate it as well. Like we all forgotten what's happened previous seasons, until I see them holding up a shirt with big Ed shaking their hand I will believe nothing.

Until the next rumour appears and I get hyped

I hate how United supporters are becoming like Real's supporters where hype/big names take over what the club needs. If Mou believes that anyone is what he needs, then let it be. I cannot remember United fans being hyped with Vidic and Evra, yet they were exactly what Fergie needed.

Im still trying to work out why people think Perisic is underwhelming. The guys a machine.

And Lacazette and Morata. The guys have all the tools to be monstrous.

I watched Perisic in the Euro's and thought he was pretty decent. My friend was telling me he's watched his highlights from this year and thinks he's really good. I don't trust YouTube highlights anymore after my other friend told me Granit Xhaka was going to be the best holding midfielder in the prem after watching his YouTube highlights last summer.

As for Lacazette. Yeah I'll take him.

I don't know about his club performances as I don't watch Serie A very often, but as somebody who watches every Croatian national team match, I can say that he has been their best and most consistent performer over the last 2 years or so

I have not seen a lot of Inter games this season so I don't know a lot about Perisic. What I do know, is that Inter have a tendency to somehow make most of their signings turn into flops. Even the great Pirlo and Cannavaro failed to impress while at Inter. Their highlights in the last 25 years were the relegation of Juventus to Serie B and appointing Mourinho as manager.

I think you're overlooking a pretty incredible treble in there too

Let's hope that comes with the Mourinho package ;)

For all the galatico signings Real made on the 00s they were never that successful. No team can work with an eleven full of world class players. We need grafters in the line up as well. Hopefully Mourinho can find the right balance between both.

Exactly. Now they're finding success after blooding some youth players and having key men like Casemiro or even Vazquez off the bench. Go figure.

I know they still have galactico quality players like Ronaldo, Bale and Kroos etc. but their strategy is a far cry from the day's where they'd throw money at the player who'd sell the most shirts.

If Real kept hold of Makelele, I'm certain they would have won a lot more trophies but he wasn't a big name so Perez didn't think he was good enough.

Zidane was one of his biggest supporters which is a big reason why he's doing so well at Real, he knows you need grafters in the side like Casemiro and how he got rid of the galatico signings of recent years.

I guess it has also to do with our attention-deficit prone social media age. Back in the time of Fergie, the number of arm-chair pundits would have been way, way lesser. If you take today mediums (media??) and internet infrastructure and magically teleport it to Fergie's time, I am fairly certain we would have had similar ruckus back then as well. The other factor would have been Manchester United's dominant position in the game, which would have caused a lot of people to just trust SAF. Don't get me wrong, we're economically huge, and we still have a great manager in Jose, but our middling returns over the last 3 seasons have probably given fans more fuel to add to the metaphorical fire of cacophonous noise.

You sound like you're having a meltdown because others are having a meltdown. People complaining over others complaining are just as bad imo.

People on here can be reactionary and want to blow off steam by going in a meltdown for a day or two. Also after yesterday's news I'm not surprised people are extremely disappointed.

Everyone will chill out in a few days when we get a good player linked to us.

Try football; almost anyone can gym. Playing is for a chosen few. ;)

It's best to combine both. You work out to play better football, so you have extra motivation.

That is correct, provided you have the time for both. After work & playing for a couple of hours, I have zero energy left, so gym is not an option.

I play 5 aside twice a week but I don't really feel like I'm getting much fitter. Now the weather is better, I've started "pre-season" training on the training pitch 5 mins from my work. I absolutely hate running so I've got a football and any jogging I do, I'm kicking the ball with me. It keeps me much more engaged kicking a ball every few steps rather than just running. On Monday I ran 5k (something I've not done in about 13 years) at lunch and then played 5 aside in the evening, then yesterday I did it again.. and pulled my hamstring. Fuck!

Any tips for a beginner? I want to get into a regular gym routine but just can't motivate myself enough to do so. Part of it is based on a fear of looking foolish in front of other experienced gym-goers. And I know, you've got to start somewhere but I just can't seem to get over that fear.

I was in the same boat, as someone who'd only been doing outdoors activities all my life I had to start going to the gym after a knee surgery, I had zero idea how to operate any of the stupid contraptions at a gym. Here's what I did.

  • Researched my local gyms, found one which was popular among older people and moms going during the day.
  • Signed up for a trial, got a 1hr rundown with a coach where we looked at what I needed to focus on and how to do the basic exercises.
  • Figured out which times were the least busy, since this gym mostly consisted of people older than me with very set schedules I found dinner time to be the best time to go.
  • Did that 2-3 days a week until I was comfortable enough with everything to make a bit of a routine for myself, joined a 24hr gym and now I go do my thing whenever I have time.

Your situation might be very different but the biggest thing for me was finding a low profile gym where the people working there definitely saw bigger amateurs than me every day, never be afraid to ask someone to demonstrate an exercise for you, people love doing that.

Disappointed with people in the sub.

Everyone goes on as if they're the most level headed, sensible fan and steps above twitter fans and yet everyone is going on like it's the end of the world because we're not getting Griezmann. The Lacazette thread was a joke with the comments in it.

"City signing Silva while we fucking about with Keane, Dier and Peresic." Like...come on...Jose has an excellent track record in the transfer market. It just makes us seem like Madrid fans expecting us to sign the biggest name every year.

I guess Peresic isn't on top of r/soccer every week so he's shite!

I'm genuinely amazed at some people's thought process on here when it comes to buying players. Griezmann would have been the best striker we could have asked for but that's not happening.

Now we're being linked with Lacazette, Lukaku, Belotti, Morata and even Mbappe etc and people here are saying they'd rather Belotti over Lacazette, what the fuck goes through peoples minds on here to think that we'd be better off spending close to probably 90 mill on Belotti who had ONE half decent season in Serie A compared to Lacazette who's scored nearly 100 goals consistently for the past 3 seasons? The same applies for Mbappe, he's had one half decent season.

I really think a majority of people on here haven't watched any games that Lacazette played in but think because he plays for OL he wouldn't be good enough here and are just going with whoevers flavour of the week. I'd take Lacazette in a heartbeat over Belotti, Morata and Mbappe.

What exercises are you mainly doing at the gym? If you're focusing on weights, it's not going to do a whole lot in terms of losing weight.

Focus on cardio and eating healthier. Go out for a 30-40 minute jog a few times a week and cut out any fatty foods and drinks such as chocolate, takeaways, processed foods and fizzy drinks.

Eat less calories, it's really that simple. Even the gym won't help you if calorie intake is higher than your requirements.

If you find yourself struggling to keep them down then maybe look at using meal replacements like Huel/Soylent for breakfast and lunch.

In my dream, we were having a class reunion, and he was trying to get everyone to sign up. He even offered to pay me lots of money, but I still said no. Then I saw he had a list of who joined, with half the class on it. Even our teacher. I decided I have to do something. I pulled some guys aside and started telling them that this is really bad and they shouldn't do it. But one of them told me that he is gonna make so much money, and this will be good and blah blah blah. And then out of nowhere, someone starts yelling at him. I look to my left, and it's Ander Herrera. He's yelling "YOU ARE SO STUPID, THIS IS TERRIBLE" and things like that at the guy. He got so scared he tried to leave, but Ander kept following him and still yelling passoniatley. And then I woke up, but I really thougt for a moment that Ander will beat him up. Good to know Ander is with me even in my dreams!

I'd love some Ed's magic but who is left for us in the position that we need to improve? Can only think of Fabinho. All the ST that we link with are just not that great for me.

Sure but the player that rejected us was the only world class player we've supposedly been in for. I have faith that Ed will bring in the players, but I also don't have faith in the players Ed is bringing in.

The two best LBs on the market have chosen to move to our direct rivals. The best and only world class CB on the market also set to move to our rivals and for some reason we're not in for him, instead interested in bringing back Keane who would be a good signing IMO but he isn't good enough to be a starter. Instead of being linked to Fabinho (who probably won't move now) we've been linked to Dier who would be another good addition to the squad but another underwhelming signing for many. Then we're being linked to Perisic who is not what we need IMO, and we're overpaying which is funding Inter's move for a far far better player. And they're not particularly caught up about losing him either. We didn't score goals last season and all of our forwards bar Zlatan were very hit and miss. Buying an average winger (relative to the teams we aspire to compete with) who isn't terribly consistent and isn't known for his attacking flair isn't a step in the right direction. I'm okay with the Lacazette links, I think he'd be a very good signing for the time being.

I think there is some reason to be concerned. Not many top players are on the market and those that are we are either not interested in or have been rejected / beaten to by a rival. If we're wanting to compete with the likes of City next year, we need to inject some serious quality into this squad because thats what we lacked massively this year. We don't want solid players, we want players that will take us to the next level.

I think it's very valid to be worried. We were miles off the top 2 last season. We came 6th, 6th! We literally fell behind in terms of competitiveness against the other top 6. We desperately need to make up ground this summer if we want to stop the season after season of struggling to make top 4. I fail to see how signing only second tier players will do that. We've been signing second tier players every summer, we have a squad full of very good players. What we need is word class players. No team competes without world class players. Chelsea without Hazard and Costa, Spurs without Kane and Alli, City without Silva and Aguero would be nowhere near where they are now. Why do people think we can succeed without world class talent all over the field? This isn't the Fergie days anymore

I mean Perisic is a decent player I'm sure but he won't take us to the next level, we won't catch up with Spurs, Chelsea or City with signings like that. People will say wait and see, I'm willing to wait but even just looking at the market of which world class players are available it's not looking great

I don't think it's all about just buying the best players in the world and expecting them to do well. Yes they look good on paper but are they going to fit our system? Are they going to gel with the players? There is a lot of other things to take into account.

If Mou wants to buy Perisic, let him buy Perisic. He know's more about what we need then you do.

I agree with that but in the wider context we need to have some world class players. If we buy all Perisic type players that won't be good enough even if they do all fit the system. At the end of the day quality can't be replaced with even the best tactics. Yes a Leicester can win the league but that is a 1 in a million and that success will never be sustained. Even Atletico did well but haven't won anything for a while. You can't replace quality and if we don't have quality we will suffer

Yeah you're right I think we do need to have the quality no doubt about that but if we're trying to sign players like Perisic, that are pretty random, it's obviously because Mou knows what he's doing and think's the player will do well in his system. I don't think buying 5 players for 50m each every summer is going to solve our problems, for example Man City.
