Visa and MC arent lenders/dont provide credit. Theyre merchant networks. Credit & debit cards run on them in the US. The issuing banks lend.

Typically merchants pay around 1.5%-3.75% of transaction amt to accept cards depending on network/deal. Also a few cents per transaction fee

These fees are outrageous. They hurt poor people and true small business owners (single shingle or low margin) the hardest.

I think a small business not being able to accept cards in a society going more and more cashless is more harmful to them than 1-3%
