Passionately Promoting A More Perfect World

Random problem for Tumblr: How does one plan a wedding? What goes into planning a wedding? How is it similar to or different from planning anything else? Are there actually people who are good at this shit?

(Feel free to answer only one or a few of these questions. I just really really want some answers from someone, even if you don’t have any good ones. Pls no bystander effect s’il vous plaît, gracias.)

((Yes, I’m aware that I’ve already said I’m married. That was the civil ceremony; actual getting-married-ceremonially-with-guests-in-attendance is still upcoming.))

They should be involved in the planning process and then on the wedding day, if anything goes wrong or last minute decisions come up (there are always some things like this) they will handle it instead of the spouses or the wedding party, who already have enough to deal with.

There’s a lot of ways to do things cheaply- my dad got married at the school he was working at, offer breakfast rather than dinner, keep the number of people small or don’t have sit downs, skip the flowers. Its also a good idea to solidify why you want a marriage ceremony. A religious wedding looks different than a celebratory one, etc

  19. spiralingintocontrol said: since you’re in the Bay Area rationalist orbit: your best bet venue-wise is to ask a UC Berkeley student to help you acquire a campus space for it. more broke-ass wedding tips: have a potluck, get a friend to take photos for you. A lot of work is repetitive (if you are doing it yourself rather than buying), so it’s both useful and fun to have a small group of friends that will do it with you
