The detector trilled a million trills, notifying the Lady of Eternal Pain that her name was being spoken. It went unheard. She’d shoved it in a closet. It turned out in retrospect that honoring her lost daughter by forbidding the syllables “Mama” to appear on any other lips was not working out.
