Culture Shock

On Voat, you may see some racism, sexism and antisemitism, and language that you probably aren't very used to. Please don't be too put off by this. This is a free speech platform - thus far, Voat has been built mainly Redditors who were thrown out for speaking too freely, and they've brought their ideas with them. You can do the same.

Personally, I'm very in favor of your community having a presence here. But one thing you should realize, is that you're about to become one of the more left-wing subverses on this site. It's actually very funny. You are also the new kid, and you are being trolled. It's mostly in good humor. If you get triggered, you are showing that you will be to Voat, what the rest of Reddit is to the_Donald.

You can help Voat

If you register, consider throwing Voat a few dollars. Voat is stuck in that awkward phase where it is growing in popularity and becoming expensive to run, but isn't yet so popular that it's easily self-sustaining. We will get there, but in the meantime, you guys could really help make a difference. Yes, there is another subverse called v/TheDonald. It doesn't have your mods running it, but has good CSS. Either the communities will merge, or will coexist.
There are vote restrictions in place for new accounts. This is a nuisance, but is very effective in preventing shilling. You will not be able to downvote until you get 100 CCP (100 post karma), so remember to upvote each other.
Embedded shills are attempting to scare you away, by posing as insane racists. There are racists on this site, but the real ones will actually debate ideas with you reasonably, and give you your own space the rest of the time.
I think you're already familiar with imgur alternatives. We never use it here either. In addition to magaimg.net, there is imgoat.com and catbox.moe (also others).

Not full-on free speech, but more than you could get away with in real life

Step 2: /r/The_Donald

Reddit's free speech rules pushed to their limit

Step 3: Voat

Where everybody freely talks about gassing Jews

It's taken me a while to get to this point, but I'm in. Free speech is a helluva drug and I want MORE!

I see this as another stepping stone:

I just came today. I've known reddit was awful for a long time and even checked out replacement sites before, but I always ran into the same issue that reddit simply had so many more users that even though I had to sort through shit, the 5% that was good was more than what I found on alternatives. However, I think T_D is gonna get banned, and outside of a few niche hobby subs the rest of the site is cancer, so I'm out.
