There is actually an official set of star rules. Google "mtg star format" and the 3rd link (Called "Casual Formats") on the DailyMTG Site spells it out - a player wins when both of their opposed pair are eliminated. It was also in one of the old fat pack books with the original structure being one deck of each colour arranged in the WUBRG pattern.
