If you are experiencing the CTDs from this version then try using this hotfix and see if it fixes it:

What problems does this fix? I have a CTD problem which this doesn't fix, so is there a list that says what this fixes?

It fixes one of the CTDs, if you still get CTDs that are repeatable then make a bug report. Just like the original post says, if it fixes your issue then good else make a bug report of your CTD.

I also CTD when using merc bands and the sellsail fleets for extended periods of time (over the span of 10-15 years). Usually happens when embarking and disembarking said merc bands with those sellsail fleets. The locations I CTD are disembarking a 13000 merc band at dagger lake, winning a colonization war against the dothraki was at war with two at the same time for same reason winning either war had same effect, and embarking a 10000 merc band from bloodstone with sellsail fleets. All of these were in the A Feast for Crows bookmark and had the new valyrian empire title if that helps. Also I have all the dlc and only used AGOT mod. I'm also having the same problem with my Blackyfire game in the Ninepenny Kings bookmark. I placed the file on the events folder and it replaced the one it had before (did I already have it?). Now it tells me the checksum is off with the mod. Is that normal?

When you modify any file in a mod (except a select few) it will change the checksum. By adding the hotfix it changes the checksum.

When you say copy to the events folder i'm guessing you mean the whole file and into the main CK2 events folder, not some other created in AGOT folder...

Because if that's the case it still has not fixed the constant ctds

ok so ive done the hotfix and my checksum is now BALD. before it was EWTD or some such. do I need to somehow get checksum to NSUM or should I be fine? I am using 2.7.0.2 and no submods

Seeing as how you're overwriting whole files with this hotfix, there is no way to revert to the old checksum, which is perfectly normal. The hotfix is supposed to alter the checksum, it is safe to play.
