Pastor Susan was called as the sixth rector of St John's in June 2012 and began in September. She was previously the rector of St John's in Logan, Utah, and before that worked as an administrator at St Thomas in Sun Valley, Idaho. Susan was ordained to the priesthood in December 2009 after a varied career in the Alaskan oilfield and as a small businesswoman. She is the author of four children's books and an adult non-fiction. She serves on the board of the Episcopal Preaching Foundation and in Utah was a consultant to parishes on congregational development. Susan grew up in Maine and shares her life and home with two Field Trial English Springer Spaniels. She enjoys many outdoor and mountain sports.

The Rev. Ted Howard, Associate Rector

Ted has been on the staff at St. John’s since July 2007. He serves as an assistant to the rector and is involved in virtually all aspects of St. John’s program, including worship, preaching, teaching, outreach, congregational care, fellowship and stewardship. Ordained to the priesthood in December 2007, Ted left behind 30+ years of experience in urban planning, community and economic development, finance, and commercial real estate appraisal. During this time, he held senior management positions in government and the non-profit sector, and has owned and run small businesses. He grew up in Scarsdale, NY, lived on both coasts, and moved to Boulder with his wife Sallye in 1992. They have five grown children and eleven grandchildren.

Fr. Ben joined St. John’s as a half-time member of the staff in May of 2014. His work is focused on the formation and support of children’s, youth, young adult, and young family communities in the church, while also taking part in the sacramental life of the congregation. Ben was raised in the wilds of Eastern Washington State, graduated from Gonzaga University and the Church Divinity School of the Pacific, and began his ordained ministry at Grace & Holy Trinity Cathedral in Kansas City, Missouri. His call led him through the Dioceses of Connecticut and Olympia before he followed his lovely and talented spouse, Jieun Kim Newland, to Fort Collins, CO. In addition to his work at St. John’s, Fr. Ben is Chaplain to the 244th Engineer Battalion of the Army Reserve.

The Rev. Andy Carhartt

Ordained an Episcopal Deacon and Priest in 1997, Andy is also an ordained Elder (1947) and Pastor (1954) in the Presbyterian Church, USA.  His duties at St. John's include pastoral care at hospitals and homes, leading worship and Bible study on Wednesdays and Sundays, and officiating at funerals and other services as needed. He is also a recent past member of the Board of Trustees for the Colorado Episcopal Foundation, which helps coordinate stewardship and loan services for the 120 churches in our diocese.

Andy is married to Jinny Carhartt, a graduate of Education For Ministry. She is a member of the Daughters of the King. They have five grown children.  The Carhartts have participated in the life of the Presbyterian Church, USA, for over 50 years and have been at St. John's since 1991.

The Rev. Will Reller

Ordained a Roman Catholic Mission Priest on Jan. 7, 1967 for the Divine Word Missionaries. First assignment was to teach spiritual development and provide spiritual direction to college and seminary students.

In 1972 began a four year assignment of parochial work in remote areas of Papua New Guinea including training catechists and conducting retreats. 1976 appointed Dean of Students at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago.

1983 resigned from the Roman Catholic Church. Received into the Episcopal Church by the Episcopal Bishop of Chicago. 1984 Orders received by the Anglican Church of Canada. Worked in three Swampy Cree Native villages in Northern Manitoba

1987 Arrived in Colorado, became Vicar of the Chapel of the Resurrection in Limon, Colorado and the Chaplain at Boulder Community Hospital. 2002 Left Boulder Community Hospital to serve as a Hospice Chaplain, continue to serve as a Hospice Chaplain. 2011 Chapel of the Resurrection closed after 24 years as vicar.

2012 Joined St. John’s. Given the title “Pastoral Care Chaplain” by Father Ted Howard,visiting those members unable to attend services and many Episcopalians on the
fringes.

My wife of 30 plus years, Irene F. Sullivan is an artist. We live at 9,000’ in the mountains outside of Boulder with our 2 dogs and horse.

The Rev. Jan Dewlen, Deacon

Deacon Jan serves on the staff of St. John’s with a focus on reaching out to the community with God’s love and service, especially to the Boulder Homeless Women.  Deacon Jan was ordained in 1999 and previously served in Longmont.  She has had careers as a registered radiologic technologist and mammographer, a hospice chaplain and a stay-at-home mom.  Jan has served on the Commission on Ministry, the Committee on the Diaconate, and teaches classes for Eucharistic Visitors in the diocese.

Jan and her husband Jerry have lived in Longmont for 37 years, have two grown children, and three grandchildren nearby. 

The Rev. Canon James Williams and The Rev. Lorine Williams, Deacon

Canon James Williams serves as an assisting priest, and deacon Lorine Williams serves as deacon at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Boulder, Colorado. Before coming to St. John’s, Canon James and Deacon Lorine served as missionaries for over eleven years in the Diocese of Matlosane, Klerksdorp, South Africa. As life-long missionaries, they continue to serve the Diocese of Matlosane by frequent return visits and by assisting in the development of the Archbishop Desmond Tutu Heritage Site in Klerksdorp.

Amy is serving as St. John's Clergy Intern during the 2016-2017 academic year. She is a third year seminarian at Iliff School of Theology in Denver, on track to graduate in May with a Master of Divinity and certificates in the Anglican Studies and Pastoral and Spiritual Care programs.

Amy was ordained to the sacred order of Deacons (transitional) in June, and hopes to be ordained to the sacred order of Priests in June 2017, God willing and with the people’s assent.

In addition to seminary coursework and her time spent at St. John’s, Amy is the middle school chaplain at St. Elizabeth’s K-8 Episcopal School in Denver. She is the single mom to three amazing daughters, Corinne, Celeste (aka, “Zesty”), and Calista; they particularly enjoy playing games, taking road trips, eating cookies, and laughing together.

Amy grew up throughout the United States, having lived in or visited all 50 states and more than 25 countries. Her time at St. John’s will be spent shadowing a variety of ministry programs and supplementing her seminary education with worship and parish leadership experience.
