How do I set up Sync on my computer?

(Redirected from How do I set up Firefox Sync?)

Sync lets you share your data and preferences (such as your bookmarks, history, passwords, open tabs, Reading List and installed add-ons) across all your devices. This article shows you how to set up Sync.

Important: Sync is not a data backup service. Users should continue to perform regular backups of their Firefox profiles to prevent loss of data.

Setting up Sync requires two parts: first you must create an account on your main device, then sign in to your account using your other devices. Here are the steps in detail:

Create a Sync account

  1. Click the menu button new fx menu , then click Sign in to Sync. The sign in page will open in a new tab.
    Sync 29
  2. Click the Create Account button.
  3. Fill out the form to create an account and click Create account. Take note of the email address and password you used, you'll need it later to log in.
  4. Check your emails for the verification link and click on it to confirm your email address. You're ready to go!
  5. To connect your other devices to Sync, continue on to the next section.

Connect additional devices to Sync

Important: Sync requires the latest version of Firefox. Make sure you update Firefox on any computers or Android devices. Then, if necessary, update Sync.
All you have to do is log in and let Sync do the rest. To log in you need the email address and password you used in the previous section.

  1. Click the menu button new fx menu , and then Sign in to Sync.
  2. Click the Create Account button to open the Create a Firefox account page.
  3. Click on the Have an account? Sign in link at the bottom of the page.
    Sync sign in - fx50
  4. Enter the email and password you used to create your new Sync account.
  5. After you've signed in, Sync will start synchronizing your information across all your connected devices.

To connect your mobile devices, see:

Remove a device from Sync

  1. Click the menu button new fx menu to expand the menu.
  2. Click on your Sync account name (usually your email address) to open the Sync preferences.
  3. Click Disconnect. Your device will no longer be synchronized.
