(9) For instance, Trump doesn't want Un to nuke the U.S., but he *does* admire Un and is using North Korea as a political foil/distraction.

(10) Meanwhile, Trump's relationship with the *other* five members of the LEAGUE is very positive and mutually supportive in a *direct* way.

(11) Just so, Putin may *not* love having a nuclear power on his Eastern land-border, but *does* like the way Un is embarrassing America.

(12) But the LEAGUE metaphor also explains why Trump was unaccountably horrid to Merkel. Her style and agenda are not a fit for the LEAGUE.

(13) LEAGUE members run on violence, intimidation, hatred of the press, xenophobia, authoritarianism, narcissism, and global instability.

(14) Any world leader *opposed* to these governmental qualities—or, say, secrecy—or supportive of global cooperation antagonizes the LEAGUE.

(15) So, in sum, if you use the LEAGUE OF VILLAINS metaphor as a way of understanding geopolitics today, you'll find it unexpectedly useful.
