Rabid Puppies 2015
What follows is the list of Hugo recommendations known as Rabid Puppies. They are my recommendations for the 2015 nominations, and I encourage those who value my opinion on matters related to science fiction and fantasy to nominate them precisely as they are. I think it is abundantly evident that these various and meritorious works put not only last year's nominations, but last year's winners, to shame.

I'm not up to date on victomology (its always so confusing to remember who outranks who) - does native american man trump white woman? You should declare yourself a transgender so that as a female native american you are at the undisputed top of the hierarchy.

Any moral apprehensions I may have had before about voting for Blue SF without reading everything first, went out the window after reading all of the Hugo-nominated novellas, novelettes, and short stories and skimming through a lot of the other material in the Loncon voter package. In addition to the dino revenge porn story, there was the delightful tale of a lesbian wereseal's daughter, the interracial gay rain Pinnochio, hybrid human/horse bestiality/pedophilia, and a story revolving around a "no coloreds allowed" sign at a swimming hole. Also a graphic novel about necrophillia, and some article about how "Queers Dig Time Lords." Yeah, that's all I can bear to remember at this point.
The funny thing is I've actually read/heard of 90% of the authors up on this slate. Versus the pinkshirt version which is a litany of who the heck is that?
Also I'm pretty sure I won't have to suppress my gag reflex while reading the stories of the authors I hadn't heard of on this slate, versus the pinkshirt stream of revenge dinoporn, lesbo cinderella et al.
I look forward to reviewing all the material to see if my conclusions match yours above.

I haven't watched Grimm in years and I'm surprised it's still going. But, that said, it was a goldmine of unintentional comedy.

Rolf, there is literally no new writer who better illustrates the importance of story over style than you do. What so many people fail to understand is that while technical skill is nice, it's a secondary, if not tertiary aspect of good writing.
We don't still read Asimov due to the beauty of his prose. We read him for the stories. And while technical skill can be developed and improved, you've either got stories to tell or you don't.

It would just be nice to see something other than five Doctor Who episodes on offer. And Grimm is fun. It's television, so obviously it's stupid.
Don't worry Rolf, Vox is right, you deserve it. And, I expect with the release of the rewrite of Stars [into two books?] you will be on his short list next year for Sad doggies 4.
I am so looking forward to what's going to be done with Stars. I've read the original some three times now.
Also: My wife makes exceptional pottery, including mugs, as an independent artist, but I am so going to get a Rabid mug. Hee hee.

I lolled. That line alone makes it so I will suppress my natural instinct to never follow a damn order on principle and vote as scheduled. Incidentally, I registered as being part of lupus org.
And when i requested the pin I got an immediate reply (on a Sunday) explaining there was a human element delay but that there was still plenty of time to vote for the Hugos and I would be contacted in a few days. I think some of the organisers may be more on side than most of us assume.
I have read quite a bit of the rabid puppies slate. Will endeavor to read all i have missed in the various blue slates from vd carriea and torg. I agree with grimm over dr who. I get tired of sjw assumptions and do not want them imposed on my teevee. Dr who is pretty awful about that.

Since there's space, might I suggest stuffing in the Rick and Morty: Raising Gazorpazorp episode into the best short form, since it has characters from Farscape, which had a blue woman in full body paint and was this generation's Brisco County Junior.

@Rhys, Gawker did a "privilege tournament" a couple of years ago, to determine among themselves which group has the least amount of privilege. It came down to Native Americans and the homeless.

Here's the hardest lesson for some people to learn with regards to free speech.
If you're not at least sometimes defending the speech rights of people you consider to be reprehensible shitbags, chances are you're not defending free speech.
If you say you defend free speech, but you constantly are dreaming up technicalities through which you can conveniently get rid of speech that you just so happen to strongly disagree with, you're actually an enemy of free speech.

I think that's a bit unfair to "Wakulla Springs" which by far was definitely the second best story in its group after Vox's. It's main problem was that it was not science fiction or fantasy in addition to an uneven ending. Which is the same problem that plagued the "were-seals" story where it was a story about were-seals that didn't actually have any were-seals in it.
In fact the Hugo's really damned a decent story here by _forcing_ it to be something it wasn't. A true act of racial violence that would sadly go over the heads of many of the voters.

It does ask for examples for the best professional artist category. But, it also says that not providing them will not invalidate your nominations for that category. Also asks for personnel on Best Fancast, but does not indicate whether or not providing that info will affect your votes in that category.

From the Eligibility rules: For any work, the year is from the printed publication date if there is one, or else from the copyright date. (Many printed works are actually available before their printed publication date, but this does not matter for Hugo eligibility.)
The stories on the list have always been copyrighted 2014. What part of "Mr. Wright does not self-publish" did you not understand the first time? Besides which, recall that Old Man's War was actually self-published on Whatever two years before it was nominated for Best Novel.
Wakulla Springs should have been serialized in The New Yorker or some other prestige literary outlet. It was good - I was able to keep reading it despite not being very interested in Yet Another Story of the Segregated South, and it having Awkward Teenager Angst (which is a huge turnoff for me). But it just isn't science fiction or fantasy. Being nominated for a Hugo probably makes it de-facto ineligible for the literary award it might deserve.

"Wakulla Springs" wasn't badly written. Like you, I enjoyed it more than most of the rest, despite it's overt dredging-up of old racial muck from a time and place that's been sifted through enough already. But as you've already stated, it had no business in the Hugos...mentioning Tarzan actors and adding a paragraph or two about a taking ape does not qualify as fantasy in my book.

The Rabid puppies logo is ripe for "reducto ad Hitlerium" shrieking from the left, given the lightning bolt and deaths head symbols on the Larry Correia puppy.
I wish i had commerical rights to this. about 2 years ago,my dad sold his small clothing manufacturing business. We could have made some big $$ on Rabid Puppy merchandise.

Every work on the list is eligible according to the Hugo rules. I cleared any that were potentially questionable and left off one or two that I considered dubious even though they probably qualified under Wheel of Time or Old Man's War precedents.
Yeah, in any case I got the rules wrong. I'm a Sad Puppies supporter and I've bought my membership, though I actually may go with the Rabid Puppies list.
(By the way, I did just start "The Stars Came Back". I look forward to seeing where it goes.
Malcolm - it you like it, be sure to tell your friends, and maybe leave a review. I hope you do (like it, that is); it's not real clear where it's going for most of the story, but it definitely gets somewhere by the end.

Anthony's thoughts (RE: "Wakulla Springs") mirror my own, regarding "The Water That Falls On You From Nowhere." This was a story which would have absolutely been at home in a copy of THE SUN, but I did not recognize it as SF at all, and it was so barely F that it might as well have not even tried to be in that particular subgenre. In other words, if I want to read gay angst allegory, there are plenty of trendy literary magazines which are more than happy to feature that kind of material. When I want wizards and rocketships, I go to SF/F. Too many fans keep going to SF/F for wizards and rocketships . . . and getting let down. No wonder the market share keeps shrinking, for lit SF/F. It's not the same field it was in 1975. Nor even in 1985.

(laughs) Just noticed I'm a rabid puppy. Now that's funny right there (both me being on, and me not even realizing it until 20 days after the fact.)
A couple of things were missing in their ballot, so I did leave them off. The "best editor" categories were in the opposite order on the form, so some may get them backwards.
A few fields were empty, such as the author of the media and the example work columns.
Check your editor submissions to make sure you didn't put them in the wrong order.

Didn't know there was a SF "Right" until I saw a book in the library with double dealing "Eco" terrorists as bad guys on a space station with a bold and righteous Mitt Romney type as president. I gave it a try, decent concept, deliberately contrived political plot line with the author going out of his way to wearing it on his forehead. Well that was only one book and what do I want for free?

For the record, I have just received my Hugo voting packet.
I'm writing this because need an outlet for my outrage and I'm directing myself to you Vox Day and your MRA followers. Leave the Hugo Awards in peace. This award is holy and has elected people like Ursula K. Le Guin, Frank Herbert, Philip K. Dick and Isaac Asimov in its past. Serious science fiction authors. Not people driven by misogyny, xenophobia and right wing mentality. Please leave this awards alone, they're so important to so many people and a chance to give new authors the honor they deserve, for the blood, sweat and talent they invested into their works.
Please look into yourself Vox Day and accept that what you are doing is wrong. You and your MRA followers have infested enough of other niches with your hate against people with other gender, color or sexual orientation. Leave Sci-Fi in peace.
This is a place of freedom and progress and not one of 18th century conservative xenophobia.
Accept that you and your followers can never go toe to toe ( in a fair manner obviously) with authors like Isaac Asimov or Ann Leckie. Far to great is your hate and obsession to discriminate.
Look into yourselves and try to change this world-view before its to late, because these beliefs will only lead you to a life of chagrin and loneliness.
And you know that yourselves very well, even though you wont stand to your own erroneous mentality. It's not women, gays or people of color who are the reason of your condition. And your quality of life wont better by trying to discriminate them but by getting a grip on reality, life and yourselves and turning around this ship of fools.
Driving yourselves deeper in this downward spiral of hate and ignorance.

Vox Day is actually the same person known elsewhere as Requires Hate or Winterfox, and Laura Mixon took him down, hard.
I was born in 1950 and cut my literary eye teeth on the fantasy of Greek, Roman, and Norse, mythology..and then in the library of my small elementary school found the books of an author who would change my life forever....Robert A. Heinlein.
I had discovered science fiction .... My first literary love.
I read the greats, Heinlein, Asimov, Poul Anderson, Theodore Sturgeon, Frederik Pohl, Campbell....and got spoiled.
The stories they wrote were speculative in which SCIENCE and its possibilities in the future were central; they were thoughtful and entertaining with a beginning, a middle and an end.
Sadly, in recent years a LOT of what is called " science fiction" has become "artsy" and too blatant an attempt to be " literary", preachy and topical, designed to push whatever political agenda is most politically correct at the time.
And has, thereby become what is MOST unforgivable for science fiction in my eyes...f**king BORING!
I wish you luck in pulling sci fi back from the abyss of boring political correctness. We don't need any more forms of literature fall victim to that yawn inspiring rot!
