She's been "boymoding" while in secret transition (to use our lingo) for a really long time, right? I mean, didn't I hear that she was on hormones in the 1980s? I'd be surprised if she hasn't been using a fair number of tricks to keep her appearance just male for a while. Sure, the photo's retouched, and the video was extremely flatteringly lit, but 1) I'm happy she looks good, it's clearly important to her and I can definitely understand, and 2) she's done her time and more. Her privileged social class isn't something I hold against her. I got to transition at less than half her age, after all.

Yeah, she started hormones in the 80's and then stopped because she said she didn't want to hurt her kids. I guess she wasn't ready to come out at that time. Who knows how long she's been doing it recently but, regardless, she has been dealing with this for a long time.

Yes, I am glad she looks the way she does. Nothing more than a woman. It will inspire lots of older transitioner. Saying we can do it.

I'm kind of worried the public will think that transition can happen overnight. This is an extremely successful transition, and her money helped a lot with this.

I'm not totally sure that's a problem. If the expectation is that we'll all eventually blend, then visibly trans people will be more likely to be seen as "on their way there" rather than "doomed." It won't break the social demand for passing, but Jenner was never going to be able to do that. We're honestly still at a point where we need physically attractive cis passing trans people just as possibility models.

If the expectation is that we'll all eventually blend,

Well, in this case, the transition happened really quickly. It's unrealistic to expect people to be attractive in this little time.

possibility models.

I mean, she's a possibility model to cis people but not trans people. 99% of trans people can't even afford one of the surgeries she no doubt received.

Which is why her politics will remain focused on her money and what it can get her, instead of taking into account trans rights. Because if you have the money, you can buy rights.

The age thing, I didn't really think of it that way. She has been waiting way way longer than me. That really puts it in perspective for me. I need to learn more patience

That's what I did from 14-19, although for a different reason (scared of parents)

Quite reasonable, pretty often. How did they eventually react?

I won't hold her economic or class privilige against her, but I'll hold it against the system that wealth is such a huge factor in making so many people comfortable with their bodies.

Well, sure. It's rationing out life saving medical procedures that should be covered.

I have watched that like 5 times already and I am trying so hard not to cry.

For some reason the way Jenner talks about her life such touches me SO much. She has a gift for phrasing things in just the right way that people can empathize with her.

Well she was a motivational speaker after the Games

I hope I look that good at 70!

Go Caitlyn go! Ayeeeee!

Caitlyn looks beautiful! Welcome to our world! <3

Trending Top of Page on Goggle and Yahoo and...about everywhere else. No missing this. I am really curious how this will be addressed by the republican/libertarian elements....fingers-in-ears-nananana or... double dn w/ more transphobia. I think a lot of peeps who didn't have opinions before...are gonna have opinions now 4 sure-- U can't get more 'on-the-radar' than this!

Fox News has already misgendered her and started the "lol can you believe this" train

I'm going off of this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQSvlI6K8n4

There were things they did wrong, such as treating this like crazy news, but there were things they did right.

First, they put the pictures of Caitlyn in the white corset on air. Putting this on this picture on the air helps prove to their audience that people can successfully transition and be beautiful. They're willingness to show this fact makes me happy.

Second, While they do misgender her through part of the video, the women speaking makes up for it by using the correct pronoun at the end with "... or she looks hot." The fact that they're at least somewhat trying to use the right gender is important.

Lastly, the woman speaking compliments her appearance with "he looks hot... or she looks hot." A fox news anchor showing a positive attitude to a transsexual woman is a milestone for conservatism.

They exceeded my expectations as to how they would treat this news. I was afraid they would portray Caitlyn as crazy and throw the bible at her. However that's just one anchor on fox news, I haven't looked elsewhere.

She looks absolutely like a goddess. I hope I look that good once my transition is complete. :)

So happy for her.

Go Caitlyn go! - I was reading the article on Yahoo but I had to go to a different site though since the comments that were posted were incredibly ignorant, disrespectful and full of hate.

I think she looks lovely, whether the picture is photoshopped or not. She obviously has a great bone structure. Whilst it's absolutely none of my business, I'm so glad she went for Caitlyn and not Kaitlyn (the K's annoy me, I know I'm being unreasonable). She chose a really pretty name that suits her I think.

[–]IsupportLGBT_nohomo 12 ポイント13 ポイント  (9子コメント)

Goddamn "bravery" and "awareness." Lemme tell you a story about today. Tonight my girlfriend sat with some other friends of ours and had the Caitlyn Jenner discussion. Lots of shallow bullshit. Lots of really lame (though probably well-meaning jokes). She was trying to play dumb a bit because I don't talk about my personal stuff with anyone but the very closest friends (not these friends). But she did mention that she or I could be fired legally in this state because we're gay. They didn't believe her, but she convinced them.

That's "awareness" that matters. So far, the only awareness that Caitlyn Jenner has brought is that 65 year old C-list celebrities are rich and can afford all of the surgeries at once. The public is aware that Caitlyn Jenner is all into some sort of glamorous self-image, that photoshop can de-age you by 30 years, and that she has no desire to have a name that fits her age.

That doesn't do anything for me. Her experience is nothing like ours. I fully understand that she's her own woman and can lead her life as she pleases. I have to say I resent the faux awareness, and the way all of my facebook friends pat themselves on the back for being so tolerant because they used the right pronouns... yet here I live in poverty having lost my career in a state that has no legal recourse, and none of them know that. This isn't good. It's a circus.

Jenner is also a Republican, meaning she votes in support of the regressive bullshit that her wealth allows her to bypass. She can afford the surgeries, that's great for her, but she also votes and campaigns against the same opportunities for poorer trans women. The whole Kardashian/Jenner family are pretty vapid, and don't let this fool you.

[–]IsupportLGBT_nohomo 4 ポイント5 ポイント  (0子コメント)

Right. Who knows what her politics are on climate, foreign policy, etc? What we do know is that her marginal income tax rate, estate tax, and capital gains tax rate are all more important to her than the social and economic policies that hold back the rest of us. ENDA and a high minimum wage would do so much for so many less fortunate people. She can't be bothered with that so long as dems might theoretically raise her taxes. Vapid is so right! She said on national TV that she supports the GOP because she supports "the constitution". What a stupid thing to say.

Also, she's into Porsches and has a GT3. Gross.

The fact that she is a Republican has almost nothing to do with this. It's not like someone can't honestly disagree on politics, regardless of their gender identity.

Of course they can disagree. But she's actively undermining trans people poorer than her.

lots of republicans (and people with other political affiliations) undermine their own interests though. that's not unique to caitlyn.

They do, but I would argue that she isn't undermining her own interests. A Republican would not stop her from transitioning with private doctors, which she did, but they would stop providing federal aid, such as medicare or other benefits to trans people. She is privileged with regards to wealth, so she has options that others lack, but she's perfectly happy to undermine trans women in poverty through her politics.

In basic terms, she isn't undermining herself, she's undermining trans women who can't afford HRT or related surgeries. She's perfectly happy to reap the rewards of LGBT campaigning over the last few decades, but is hypocritically voting against their interests.

well hypocrisy isn't unique to either end of the political spectrum either

and california republicanism isn't quite the same as say, southeastern republicanism either

Exactly. I feel the same way.

Sadly, the picture looks so photoshopped. Sorry, I'm very happy for her, but i didn't even recognize her.

Sadly, the picture looks so photoshopped.

It's the cover of Vanity Fair. No shit.

Come now, do you really think a member of the prestigious Jenner / Kardashian lineage would stoop so low as to have their photographs digitally retouched? Perish the thought!

Hehe. ;)

Well the article does say she had ffs in march, so it might not be as much PhotoShop as you think

I'm glad you found that.

I was both curious and lazy. :P

Anyway, i recall in an earlier article that she has had a number of facial surgeries already and I kept thinking "were any of them modern ffs? It's not like she can't afford it."

oh so Caitlyn was supposed to look like Bruce (or still look like a man?)

the accompanying video shows that she clearly can turn it and has been downplaying it in other media - even if this picture set was a little touched up

I wasn't saying that she's supposed to look like Bruce. But do you know anyone aged 65 having that flawless skin without a single wrinkle? I don't.

Everyone else in Hollywood.

she has wrinkles and crow's feet.

and have you seen christie brinkley recently? she also looks amazing for her age (as do many celebrities who have the resources to reduce the impact of aging in general)

It's a goddamn magazine cover. What did you expect?

Me neither! Work that photoshopz gurl!

She's stunning. Better in the video than the cover though, ott photoshop is never a good look! I love that she didn't have her name start with a K even thouh she could have haha.
