Someone is trying to get this subreddit shut down. (self.Anarcho_Capitalism)

For the past 2-3 months someone has been digging through comments on /r/Anarcho_Capitalism to find comments that break the sitewide rules of reddit and proceeding to message the admins about it without ever reporting the comment to us.

As you might know, reddit often bans subreddits that create too much trouble for the admins. So this method of reporting things to the admins but not the mod-team is a tactic used by people in attempts to get a subreddit shut down.

Most commonly, these comments are instances of doxxing or comments that "incite harm against people." Some of the accounts writing these rule-breaking comments look to me like uncreative caricatures thought up by some shill. Whether or not they are shills or genuine accounts doesn't matter, however.

I've been a mod here for like 3.5 years, and it has never been like this before. What normally happens when someone finds a rule-breaking comment is they will alert us (with a report or a private message) and on rare occasion alert the reddit admins at the same time. Then, starting a couple months ago, we start to get messages from the admins relatively frequently, notifying us that they have found a rule-breaking comment in our subreddit.

Most of you know that our moderation style is very hands off, but that has never been the case for posts and comments that break the site-wide rules. When we see such comments, we remove them, notify the rule-breaker, ban them if we feel the rule-breaking will continue, and sometimes involve the admins if we feel the user should be banned globally. In one instance, we have even recommended that the admins involve law enforcement.

One can only speculate who might be trying to take the subreddit down, so I'm not going to point fingers.

If you want to help save the subreddit please message the mod team if you see comments that break the site-wide rules.

The Admins have been notified of our observations, which will hopefully give them some perspective on the recent influx of reports.

I think they basically told them to stop saying it but they decided not to listen. Given the fact that the subreddit is still there and they are still saying it probably means that the admins decided not to follow up on their threat.

Which is hilarious because /r/Physical_Removal is a sub based upon defense and the non initiation of force.

Is there some gossip that you're holding back? Did the admins contact you unofficially or how did you find out that someone has 'been digging for months"? I can't imagine there is a reason to hide the dirty details and it might help us keep an eye out.

The only possible explanations:

A bunch of reddit employees are, in their free time, digging through week-old comment chains in obscure /r/Anarcho_Capitalism threads

or

Some user is reporting the rule-breaking comments to the admins but not to the mods. These comments are never being reported and thus aren't showing up in our mod-queue, nor are they being messaged to us via private message.

You shouldn't need additional information or "gossip" to figure out what is likely going on, especially if you're aware of what has been done to other right-leaning subreddits (with varying degrees of success) like /r/the_donald and /r/altright.

It's possible that no one is out to shut us down. Maybe someone simply doesn't know how to properly report comments or something. But it's better to go public with this information than to let it continue on without saying anything.

Then why don't you create a thread and start a discussion? I'm sure the ancaps on /r/goldandblack are more than willing to have an intellectual debate so long as it's civilized and respectful. I, for example, support private property rights when it comes to immigration. We all need to respect private property.

What I imagine they probably won't accept is the kind of stuff that has been posted on this sub over the last year or so i.e - smut pics of dead raped women. Which I suspect is why this shit is being brought up now.

Shadow removing comments of those who refuse to pretend that the year is 2012 eliminates that sub as place for actual debate. It may as well be the ancap counterpart to /r/debateanarchism, which refuses to tolerate dissenting viewpoints unless they conform to a very limited language.

tbh for me it's kind of whatever, there could probably be more ancap subs and that's ok, besides that it divides the community (divide and conquer) and if that is the intention it should be opposed. (apparently I remember a thread of a guy who did try to do this to the objectivist subreddit community just for fun???) Just because people are ancaps doesn't mean they will be in agreement on every issue. Maybe there will be an anti-GAB ancap sub at some point or a complement. I've seen different subs pop up here and there but nothing really catch on.

It's not a spam issue, they do not want "alt-right" discussions for instance, which are allowed on A_C. There is somewhat of a mutual understanding that the subs are different for some users and the twain shall never meet for certain purposes.

Would it be possible to ask the admins for an I.P address? This sounds like the equivalent of false takedown notices as far as I'm concerned. I also think it's worth setting up an alternative website or group just in case and I of course am immediately suspecting the anti-capitalists being behind this.

I'll certainly do this for you. I really like this place. That being said, I'm also not that troubled by the thought of letting some of the less productive and more trollish alt-right folks that frequent this subreddit fall on their own sword if that would help us demonstrate a good faith effort.

Would it be possible to have a spider crawler scrape the subreddit, searching for any reference to names on a "doxxed peoples list" to generate a report for the admins? Not sure about other rules, I'm new to reddit and still figuring this out.
