Now my minds a little foggy because it was sometime ago but for some reason I remember him struggling a bit for a while but then the 99 treble season happened and him and Yorke absolutely ruined the world.

Yea thats my memory of him, was very good but peaked in that season to another level which probably wasnt him actual level, if that makes sense. I think the team and yorke helped him massively

Confidence player. If he was playing well, he was great.

Overall? He wasn't deadly - he needed a few chances to score but he'd get those chances. Two reasons.

His positional play was great, he'd always find opportunities or help create them.

Other reason was he was playing in a fucking amazing team that created opportunities.

He had maybe 2 world class seasons, rest were just good. Shearer was world class for the best part of a decade. Ian Wright was more important to his team over a longer period.

I remember the signing and his career pretty well. The fans outside James's park with Keenan was hilarious. The signing at the time was huge. He scored 42 goals the season previously.

His first season was a total right off, the chances he missed were unreal and arguably cost the league on the last day of the season with some really bad misses against west ham. That was the year Blackburn won it I think.

Second season started pretty much the same, he'd need a serious amount of chances before he'd score. The goals eventually came and he started to kick on and score regularly. 5 in one game against Ipswich. The arrival of Yorke was perfect for him, the partnership was on another level. They scored for fun.

We do hear about him, he's a united ambassador too, I think. He pretty I'll at the moment which is why you hear his name sung now.

Great united career and record but his partnership with Yorke is legendary.

International career never really took off. England had Fowler, Shearer, Les Ferdinand, Sheringham. All got pick before him. Even when he did play he never done much .

If you watched how Lingard and Rashford were linking up today, just imagine the same between Yorke and Cole but on a weekly basis and more clinical.

Can't give a full response because I'm six beers deep by now, but for me he was absolutely world class. He has a reputation for taking 5 shots to score a goal, this was primarily due to a quote from Glenn Hoddle, and it stuck against Cole. He scored 187 goals in the premier league and never took penalties, which is phenomenal. It's unbelievable to me that he didn't get more caps for England.

He'd generally need 3-4 shots to score, bit he pretty much always be in a position to get those 3-4 shots. He was a good player that peaked in 99

Its amazing how english strikers have declined, anyone of those names is top quality, now all we really have is Kane and a young rashford
