Comparing our remaining fixtures in the league with others, top 4 is looking very tough [Armchair Analysis] (self.reddevils)

after this matchday,

us: Burnley (A), City (A), Swansea (H), Arsenal (A), Spurs (A), Soton (A), Palace (H)

City: Utd (H), Boro (A), Palace (H), Leicester (H), West Brom (H), Watford (A)

Arsenal: Leicester (H), Spurs (A), Utd (H), Soton (A), Stoke (A), Sunderland (H), Everton (H)

Liverscums: Palace (H), Watford (A), Southampton (H), West Ham (A), Boro (H)

Burnley has frustrated lot of the top 6 at home, the City game is a 50/50, Swansea at home will be tough because they will be desperately battling for survival (and we're shite at home), we have the best away record in the league but I'm still not confident about beating both North Laandan teams in their own yard, Soton away is doable, Palace at home is going to be mad if Big Sam hasn't ensured safety for them by then. We will also be stressed due to the Europa League.

Liverpool's run-in is soft. All their opponents save for Soton (9th) are in the bottom half of the table. I'm praying that they choke against all of them like they usually do but Klopp probably won't let it happen because he has learned from last season.

Arsenal is looking very shaky, I don't know if they will utterly collapse and fall further or go into "Must Get Top 4" mode and win everything. Arsenal vs Everton at the final day will be a crucial fixture.

City is looking almost set to finish in top 4, don't think anyone besides us could even think about beating them at the moment. Bar an odd loss to Palace maybe, I don't see them losing to any other team.

Our away record against teams in top 6 this season: lost vs Chelsea, draw vs Liverpool, draw vs Everton (overall: 0-2-1). We haven't won a single game against top 6 opposition this season.

If Mourinho doesn't get this team firing then we might as well kiss top 4 goodbye tomorrow and focus on the Europa League.

Yes we did, at home. I was talking about the away record since we have to play Spurs and Arsenal away in a row plus lots more away games.

The draw vs Everton was pretty good from us. Only lost points due to that dumb Fellaini penalty in the last minute. We have the second best away record in the league, so that's a sign for optimism. But we really need to beat Chelsea tomorrow to have any hope for finishing in the top 4.

And I can see us beating city. Southampton were quite awful today and City weren't exactly exceptional. We do need to improve a bit right now, but I can see it happening.

City aren't exceptional, but they have been beating all the small teams quite easily, which is why I said top 4 is almost set unless they fuck it up. Five out of their next six games are against teams in the bottom half.

In their last 10 games: 4-0 vs West Ham, 2-1 vs Swansea, 2-0 Bournemouth and Sunderland, 3-1 Hull and 3-0 Southampton today. Lost only to Chelsea and drew against Liverpool and Arsenal.

Some of the bottom half teams will be looking to fight for survival, so there's a definite possibility for an upset. I'm just trying to be somewhat optimistic, really.

Hopefully the giant killer that is Crystal Palace can do us a solid and beat City and Liverpool. Other than that, top 4 really is in our hands for the most part.

My guess is we will need at least another 20 points from our 8 games left this season to overhaul City or Liverpool. A tough ask even with an easy run.

However four of those 8 games are against top 6 sides, against whom we have taken 6 points from 6 games previously this season.

Add our insane fixture list and injury list to the mixture and there is about as much chance of us finishing top 4 as Spurs have of winning the title.

Winning the Europa league is a far more realistic target.
