I think Herrera is the only one you can argue against in this top 5.

5th place for me is a toss up between Herrera, Mkhi and Mata.

In what world has Mkhi been better than Herrera this season? From being hurt, to being out of favor, to being mediocre in far too many games. Mkhi was phenomenal in 1 game all season, and that was vs Spurs. He's been pretty bang average at best in most of the other games he's played in, with flashes of brilliance here and there but again, they're just flashes in between his horribly misplaced passes.

Herrera has been our most consistent mid-fielder all season long.

Herrera has been more consistent than Mkhi, no question.

Mkhi has shone far brighter, though.

It's a question of which you value more.

Rojo, Valencia, Bailly, Mkhitaryan, Herrera (for his standards.)

Reading these lists and I disagree with at least one or two players in every post. Then I realised we haven't even had 5 good performers season long.

Ibra, Herrera, Valencia and Bailly. That's it. Rojo at a push, but he's only been decent, just so happens that that's enough to elevate him above 90% of the squad.

Valencia, Ibra, Bailly, Rojo, Mata

Herrera, Pogba, Romero are all good shouts imo

Ibra has to be there for the sheer amount of goals scored

Bailly, Herrera, Ibra, Valencia and I can't believe I'm saying this, but Rojo.

  • Ibra: Our most consistent scorer and the rescuer of too many games. He's had some of his own issues, like the penalty miss vs Bournemouth, a few too many missed easy shots early on with Pogba's passing, and gets a little too cute with his passes and selfishness. But, he's our savior more than not and our top scorer.

  • Bailly: Easily our best central defender. He's had a few bad games, but overall he's been our rock at the back. Fearless. It was a shame we lost him to injury and then AFCON, but hasn't changed that he's been our best CB.

  • Herrera: Tied for our most consistent player all season with Valencia and the only one in the mid who deserves to be listed here.

  • Valencia: Probably all around our best overall player this season, and our most consistent player along with Herrera. We've missed him when he hasn't played. Unbelievable that him and Ashley Young have been better at RB and LB than the likes of Shaw, Darmian, Blind and even Rojo when he's played at LB.

  • Rojo: Our most improved player from LVG's days. He's made some mistakes, but who else belongs as the #5? Mata maybe? Rojo has been overall a good defender for United this season and has had a great partnership with both Bailly and Jones. Even some of his mistakes aren't all on him. De Gea was just as much to blame for that Everton goal as Rojo was.

Mata is the only other one that I'd say could creep into the top 5, and even then it's hard to say he deserves it more than Rojo.

Ibra, Mata, Valencia, Rojo & Carrick.

Our defensive players have done a great job this season. Very tired of the overpaid premadonnas that make up the majority of our midfield and attack. Hoping for a bloodbath this summer.

  • Valencia
  • Ibra
  • Herrera
  • Pogba
  • Mkhi

The reason I choose them is because they're the ones we miss the most when they don't play. Mata and Bailly has also been tremendous, but we can "survive" without them. And seeing how Mourinho was perfect with signings makes me trust him, even tho I don't agree with some of his preferences.

Has there not?

I mean, Ibrahimovic is literally miles ahead of anyone else in terms of goals scored and attempts but sure...he totally doesn't stand out.

De Gea is having one of his worst seasons in a long time? He's had some good games and made some good saves but he's also made mistakes leading to goals and points being dropped.

Don't get me wrong, he's still been good for a goalkeeper but definitely not one of our Top 5 performers ahead of others like Rojo etc

Valencia, best RB in the league by a long way. He never stops running, he's a fucking behemoth, he loves the club. I just love watching wingers bounce off him and he calmly just takes off and leaves them for dead.

Herrera, completely embarrasses Kante stats-wise. Less game time and more interceptions. One of those players that no-one really notices unless he does something wrong. He has that little fiery Spanish streak in him that endears him to me.

Bailly, just love him. He's such a god damn psycho. I could watch him cut players in half all day. He's so young yet so fast and he'd probably cut his leg off and throw it in the way to prevent a goal.

Zlatan, he's been hit-and-miss for me. He has missed far too many chances but to come to England at 35, almost 36 at this stage and still bag probably 30+ goals in this team (which is a work in progress) is quite something. You can tell the pace of the game and the fixtures are really getting to him more than others. He looks like a walking corpse by full time and I have to respect that.

And now I struggle between Mata, Mkhi, Rojo and Romero.

Valencia, Bailly, Rojo easily top3. Rojo improved so much this season that i don't think we need an improvement in defensive formation for next season as a priority because the problem is not scoring goals, our defense is pretty good compared to other teams.
Worth mentioning is probably Mata and Carrick. Most of the time very good performances and you know you can count on them.
Miki and Pogba are ok signings but tbh not spectacular, Pogba is good player but you can't cover the fact that when you spend 100M you expect a player to lead you to victories and Pogba is pretty shit in pretty much every game against top6 side (January game against Liverpool i will remember a long, seriously he was acting there like scousers 12th player and mourinho refusal to sub him just showed that he isn't the boss in the club). You could get 2-3 players that will play on similar level in a club like United so yeah.
Zlatan won us so many games scoring for nothing but the problem is he usually plays shit for 75 mins, like seriously shit destroying most of our actions so idk, this sub looks like they worship him but if you compare all prime striker from top teams in best europe leagues it turns out he is probably the worst, his shots to goal conversion is one of the worst in europe top clubs so yeah, he got goals because 2/3 of our chances ended up on him but if you consider amount of our chances he should be scoring atleast 10-15 goals more by now.
So for me the only really good signing this season was Bailly, the rest could turns out better.
