Recently, certain users on this sub have pointed out that they believe that Blind is an important figure in this club and can substitute well in different roles if necessary. I've also heard that he can be the Carrick replacement (not surprised that it's posted by /u/GGMU1992) that this sub has been pondering about for ages. Today, I will tackle all of these points, and hopefully, you lot will see Blind the same way that I do.
Myth 1: Blind is a good left-back.
Blind is a poor left-back. He is suspect defensively and very slow to be a left back. Here are two examples of Blind not defending properly by not tracking his man:
1. Lamela's goal against us last season when Spurs destroyed us.
2. Narsingh's goal against us last season that got us eliminated from the Champions League.
In both of these clips I have linked, it highlights Blind's inability to track his man due to his poor positioning and lack of speed. These errors were costly as well. The Tottenham match would've got us CL if we won and the PSV match would've sent us through to the next round, if we won. These mistakes were all extremely costly, yet I don't see people upset at Blind for them.
Myth 2: Blind is a good CM.
Carrick was injured quite frequently in the 14/15 season, requiring Blind to fill in in his role quite a few times that season. The only match where he was outstanding in that role was against QPR, who were hardly quality opposition. Even fucking Di Maria scored one against them.
Other than that, Blind was poor or average in every other match he played in. This is because the previous points still stand, Blind is slow and quite frankly, physically weak, as previously said by former world class physical tanks in Koeman and Rio.
Myth 3: Blind is a good CB.
Shame that this needs to be argued, but here we go. Blind is an absolute liability at centre-back, making ridiculous mistakes like this, this, this, this, this, and finally, this. These are all that came to the top of my head, there are probably many more. There also could be many more if De Gea didn't bail out Blind with all the mistakes he's made.
Blind is too weak and slow to be a centre-back. Like Koeman and Rio have previously said, Blind cannot keep up with the physicality of the game.
He is also slow, as said by Rooney, (who knows a thing or two about being slow, mentally and physically,) and by Van Gaal, the manager who'd coached him for the Dutch national team and for United. The Eredivisie is extremely slow paced as well, as his teammates have said.
Finally, I would like to say that yes, Blind is an extremely intelligent player, but he just can't cut it in this league. He's extremely suspect defensively and can be bullied off the ball with ease. I struggle to find a spot for him in this team.
