Doing a bit of research on a few of our players around the Wars & our top scorer before WW1 was George Wall. Does anybody know much about him? Did they use to wear numbers back then? I know he was a striker but what number was he?

Pretty sure that keeping the same number only really started in 1993. Further, the wiki page for shirt numbers says the first recorded use of numbers on shirts was in 1924 so he almost certainly played in a number-less shirt.

purchases pre-WW1 shirt with Wall on the back & proclaims he's the best striker I've seen put the jersey on in the flesh
