Mourinho dropped De Gea following bust-up – reports

David de Gea was dropped for Manchester United’s Premier League clash with Sunderland on Sunday because of a bust-up with Jose Mourinho and not through injury, according to reports.

Sergio Romero took the Spaniard’s place in between the sticks for the encounter against David Moyes’ men and Mourinho blamed a slight hip injury for De Gea’s absence.

However, The Sun claims ‘well-connected sources’ say that the ‘key factors’ in De Gea missing out was his reaction to being criticised by Mourinho and his recent performances.

Draws against West Brom and Everton saw the Spain international produce two below-par displays with a couple of instances of poor goalkeeping in each match from the stopper.

Mourinho is understood to have made it clear in private that De Gea’s performances haven’t been up to standard, with the keeper believed to have taken exception to the criticism.
