While apologizing for his widely denounced comments earlier in the day about Hitler and chemical weapons, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer made another comment sure to generate headlines.
Appearing on The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer, Spicer said, referencing Syria that President Donald Trump is attempting to “destabilize the region.”
Earlier in the interview, he offered a profuse apology for his Holocaust comments that is generating warm reviews from both sides of the aisle. As Washington Post blogger Erik Wemple said on Twitter “Spicer was contrite, issued an airtight apology, acknowledged mistake and made no justifications. Rare for this WH.”
“Frankly, I mistakenly used an inappropriate and insensitive reference to which, frankly, there is no comparison,” Spicer said. “For that I apologize. It was a mistake to do that.”
