Production Update
Hi Guys,
We’ve run into a small last-minute issue that involves some of our electronics boards. While conducting our routine quality checks, we found that an unusually high number of them did not properly read the signals from the phone when using different versions of the Android OS. So we had to pull that batch and also run checks on every printer that had already been produced. Basically, this flaw requires us to redesign the PCB with a new micro controller unit to "clean" that signal and make sure the board reads it correctly across all versions of Android.
This process will take at least one more month, but while we wait for those new boards to be ready, we are continuing the production and assembly of all the other printers. Fortunately, the printer was designed to have the circuit board rapidly installed as one of the last components, so as soon as the new circuit boards are ready we can finish those printers and ship them out. We are sorry for yet another delay, but we want to be sure that all you backers get the best possible printer we can make and don't run into avoidable bugs once you have it.
Here, you can see a video of the assembly line for the printers.

Issue that requires a PCB review isn't "Small". It's freaking MAJOR, BUSINESS CRITICAL and EPIC problem! Have you ever tested them before production?! Looks like either very stupid engineering or bald-faced lie to me.
Seriously, tell us what is REALLY going on there. I understand that making new product is challenging and takes time, but why would yo fabricate those improbable excuses?!

Take the time to get it right. No rush!

Funny the IOS units have gone out, without app support so they are useless. and now the Android ones, with the working app, are delayed.....

What's the status on the app approval?
I plan to mainly use iOS rather than android, would it be possible to get one earlier from an iPhone-only batch or something?
Pablo Marmol about 8 hours ago
I have reported the project to kickstarter due to lack of information on the status of the project and updates by the creator.
I think you should all do the same so they ask you for at least information from the platform ....
On the main page, at the bottom.
Pablo Marmol about 8 hours ago
Sincerely, projects like this make you lose all interest in supporting other projects that may if they did well ...
Allowing this kickstarter is generating mistrust towards your platform, in which you are helpless before a case like this.
Pablo Marmol about 8 hours ago
It is shameful the treatment you are giving us, insulting our intelligence.
Kickstarter should take action, and put a reasonable amount of time after the appointed date, return the money to the backers.
I understand a delay, you are not bullshit and bad information.
Ono, you're doing everything wrong ....
Achille Salerni about 9 hours ago
ONO, you already taken our money and I don't see any option to get them back. We are not simply buyers, we are backers, we bought something that doesn't exist so we can understand problems. Anyway You are getting ridicolous and made us nervous. Why you don't say the truth? Why you don't say you are in a big late and you don't have idea about the real shipping date. Why you don't admit you have completely wrong your scheduling? Or worste, admit that ONO simply doesn't work as expected. This video is a big tease. Just people who makes random operations, you call this assembly line?
Olivier Brito Do Vale about 10 hours ago
I agree with the rest of the backers complaints. Every time you are suppose to deliver, another issue occurs. All the pictures and videos used to prove your good faith look as dodgy as each other. The thing is that you have kind of boosted the back up of your project by basically selling us the product. This makes the transaction more like a sale rather than an investment. You have taken the money but are not delivering the product which is theft, fraud, robbery. I am sure the convenient risks to investment excuse does not apply here and that fraud authority should be involved. Now I have send an email to kickstarter and I hope they will get a bit more involved in the matter as we did not come here to get robbed but to invest. Kickstarter people, you could start by providing the creators details as they always make sure that they pass through you rather than contacting us directly. As long as you are involved with these crooks, you are as guilty as them.
Lothar about 10 hours ago
@Lawrence Menachemson,
Yes, You are right!
They waited almost 1month to tell that there is another month delay, only to avoid telling the "truth" of two month delay.
.
There will be another Update in two month from now that there was a problem with the "new" PCB, like shortage of the new IC or CE/FCC registration (not needed at all)
Lawrence Menachemson about 10 hours ago
So let me get this write the last time you left feedback you said your delivery starts 23march ... you wait almost 3 weeks after the delivery date to inform us you have another problem and that there will be another delay ???
Look I accept that there will be one or two problems but common this is ridiculous .
Personally I want to kNow what you intend on giving me extra for tho
Graeme Jackson about 11 hours ago
PS - OLO, please stop making out that your backers are unintelligent.. That production video is the most hideous cover up I have ever seen. Plastic shells having a stepper motor fixed inside and then 'completed' units being placed inside a box ready for shipping?!
You clearly don't have a working solution, either mechanical, electronic, software or printing materials.. The mechanical/elecitrcal aspect of the printer is about as simple as it gets, anyone could replicate that and funnily enough it's the part you're suggesting there is a problem with.. The complex part is the software and given the app is absolutely nowhere to be seen... you have to wonder..
I know a law suit against OLO/kickstarter is not likely but when there is lies and depict then I suspect there is a chance of something sticking.
Graeme Jackson about 11 hours ago
Let's hope OLO are not using this extra time to spend up all of our money so they go bankrupt..
Let's also hope that OLO are not paying subcontractors that they actually own so they can siphon off our money..
Ed Hurtley about 11 hours ago
Also, this video strikes me as "complete fraud". Contract manufacturers (as ONO would have to be using) do not generally set up their factory floors this way, with employees wearing T-shirts of the product they are manufacturing. This strikes me as a "set up" video done solely for this update, not as a representative of an actual assembly line. (Yes, I have worked at a company that used contract manufacturers, and have toured their assembly lines.)
Ed Hurtley about 11 hours ago
So... I've been a fairly optimistic backer of this, even defending ONO in some media. But this update has just shattered my confidence in this not being a scam.
On March 22, you said "shipping starting March 23." That would imply that there were completely finished products ready to go out the door the very next day after the announcement.
It has now been almost three weeks, and you only *NOW* say "oh, shoot, we have a delay that will have us completely redo part of the product." THREE WEEKS.
If you had come out on March 24th with this update, I would be likely to believe you. That you sent out a few of them, and heard back that they didn't work properly, so you needed to do this recall and delay. But after three weeks? That says one of three things:
1. You discovered the problem immediately after your previous post, and had to delay shipments, but chose to wait two and a half weeks to tell us. - This is HORRENDOUS customer service/communication.
2. You didn't actually ship anything out on March 23 as you said you would, delaying your shipments by quite a while, then found out this problem, and are choosing to continue delaying while you work it out. Which is HORRENDOUS COMMUNICATION in telling people things were shipping the next day when you knew full well they wouldn't.
3. This is a scam. You knew all along you wouldn't ship anything out and keep coming up with new excuses.
@Kate Thompson, could you please post pictures of your unit somewhere? Preferably if you can take it apart without causing obvious permanent damage and include pictures of the internals. I would REALLY like to know if these are legitimate.
I will be emailing ONO as well (since they seem to completely ignore any posts on here, or on any of their social media platforms) demanding immediate shipment or refund. I live in a state that has successfully had our attorney general press charges against fraudulent Kickstarter projects before, and I will gladly refer this project to my attorney general if I do not get a response.
As, according to this update, this only impacts Android devices, and, according to the previous update, they should have plenty of devices sitting in their warehouse, I will demand that they ship me one of the units (as I have an iOS device,) and publish the iOS app; or send me a full refund of all money I have sent (I added more bottles of resin after my pledge, so I'm now over $200 in,) within two weeks. If I don't hear from them, or receive either my unit or a refund, I will refer them to my state attorney general, as well as contact an attorney to see about suing them as a class-action.

This is Peachy Printer case 2.0, I feel it. Also how can you consider that a "small bug"? That's something my boss could beat me up for. Anyways I'm on iOS and I'd like to receive my subpar printer too. Unbelievable.
Mugul lee about 13 hours ago
@Kate Thomson: So the product that you have is useless in order to what their saying. You have to get a new product anyway. The only way to solve the problem is open the box and take all of the picture of the board, and motors, etc. then post on the internet. I think a lot of experts are here, so they can assume this will be fake or not.

@Finadan "ALSO, where is the phone app? For one thing, you already have five backers who have supposedly functioning ONO units. "
I am one of the five who received an ONO in nyc. I have no idea whether or not it is functional because there is no mobile app. you can't use the ONO without the mobile app on your phone.

Surendra Subra about 16 hours ago
Dont mind the delays and understand it but im annoyed with the way it tends to pop up. Its a reflection of your competency. What about the units that you claimed to have been shipped in your last post? will you still release them to iphone users. And you are saying your routine test did not pick this up before you posted the news that you are delivering? You lot sound incompetent as company, perhaps go back to basics.
There is a message when you write comments like this to "be respectful and considerate" which also when you click the link points to the scenario where "if you see something that is off, say something". And this what im saying. I dont think you are being honest based on the amount of contradictions between your post and media release. Seems like you have spent a lot of money travelling the world with expo and etcs when you should have spend the funds focusing on a high quality product. You should have your own funds for marketing.

Daniele D'Agostino about 19 hours ago
What I find troubling in this update is that there are no details whatsoever...are you sure that the problem is due to a specific android version? How did you pinpoint the issue to "specific android version"?
If this is really the case isn't just a sw update of your mcu enough to compensate for it? And if it's just for some specific android version, could you just say "olo is compatible only with android version x.y.z or newer?"
Furthermore, this raise the question, if in a newer android version google changes anything, does it means that olo do not work anymore?
I'm wondering if the issue is specific to some telephone manufacturer instead, and not on the android version?
And, have checked the quality of the audio cables, or if the stepper motor is creating any interferences in the audio communication line?
Have you tried to shield the audio cable, or route it via different "route" inside the olo box?
I doubt that I will ever have an answer to these questions...

ONO, if your reading this - I use to work for a couple of marketing and media promotion companies, so I KNOW this is textbook bullshit. And I'm disappointed you have NOT taken my professional advice - Not even once - throughout the whole campaign/project.
You see, I have more contacts than boots opticians. You are done after you ever deliver this product, I will guarantee it. I have lost faith in you entirely.

Hey guys, additional delay is not really funny but I prefer to be patient and get an perfectly working Printer. Twice I made bad experience with other projects because send too early - no enough testing so no need a third experience like that. Good luck.

Sooooo... I'm iPhone only... Have been for 10 years... Why don't you send me one of the ones you already produced... Oh wait, it's probably because you haven't actually produced them. We'll wait for next month's excuse.

I love ONO, but I agree that there are more questions than answers here. You guys should get on camera and lay all the cards on the table and answer all the questions people are asking because evidently things are not being relayed clearly in writing.
At this point, it would be fair to offer backers some kind of remuneration for our extreme patience (or lack thereof). You could ship to everyone with a free 8-pack of resin, offer backers a lifetime 30% discount (or more) on all future purchases (other campaigns have offered this even when shipping on time to encourage people to come back and buy more), among many other possibilities -- but I'd say the aforementioned two ideas combined would be fair.
I realize you guys aim to ship an amazing, high-quality product, and that's what we want as well -- but show us the decency of regular updates that are 100% clear and accurate. Show us your appreciation for waiting much longer than anticipated by giving us some extra freebies/perks. I still support you, and I'm highly patient, but I really understand most backers' frustrations and questions. Please address everything ASAP.
Thanks!
nxumdon about 21 hours ago
What a bunch of cry babies...go buy a printer in retail if you didn't understand how kickstarter works...or read up on kickstarter hardware project history...this delay is not at all unusual, not at all large or show stopping. Take a look at the timelines projected vs reality on any of the other printers: rigidbot, form1, peachy, etc...If this projects delays are the largest you experience while supporting crowdfunding, consider yourselves lucky.
Roxanne Ascencio about 21 hours ago
Thanks for the update folks. At the very least you guys caught this issue before the devices went out. I know there will be lots of disgruntled backers screaming foul play but they'd be much more upset if they received their ONO with the defect.
I hope the fix works well and is rolled out without a hitch.
Jim Waterhouse about 21 hours ago
Like most of the people commenting I would like my printer. The difference is I'm patient, I'm willing to wait if I'm going to end up with a better product in the end. As far as people claiming this a scam, I highly doubt that. Almost everything I've back on Kickstarter has delivered much later than they predicted. This is especially true in something that involves new emerging technology. I do hope the Ono/Olo team starts doing a little better with the updates... even just a "still here working on it guys!" There will be happier customers more ready to praise a good product and less stressed team dreading writing the next update.

Well there's patient and there's just getting taken advantage of. But I've been waiting years for a stupid vacuum cleaner trash can so this one seems just mildly tardy in comparison. AND there was the time Paul F Tomkins never had time to fulfill that Thrilling Adventure Hour reward I had coming. Oh well.
Can I have one of the "broken" ones? I will never use Android so I don't care if it works on that OS or not.

I can honestly say it's not the census that bug me, it's the utter lack of transparency. You can't say "we're totally shipping them to you" in one update then say "oh yeah, we actually have major issues that means we have to replace the board in every unit but it will only take a month." Quit lying and tell us up front how long you actually think this will take.

This sounds like an issue you've known about for weeks at the very least, if not months, and one that indicates your hardware is extremely unreliable if a "large number" of them are affected by this issue. It also sounds like you have plenty of units that passed this test, so I'm wondering why this is causing a 1-month delay in ALL shipments.
ALSO, where is the phone app? For one thing, you already have five backers who have supposedly functioning ONO units. For another, you should probably let us beta test the functions of the app that don't directly pertain to using the printer (i.e. actually opening the app, using the social functions, syncing it to your servers, etc.) since apparently your in-house testing is subpar.

Guys, this is such a nonsense update! A "small" issue shouldn't required a new circuit board redesign?! The last update on March 23 said deliveries start... and now u have to resign the board?! It just doesn't make much of sense at all. I am expecting u guys will send an update in mid May that "problem resolved and ready to ship !!"; and then in mid June you will tell us it is not working with iOS 11 ... fast forward to September u will tell us it won't work with my new iPhone 8 because of the OLED screen ...
