Yall brand new social justice warriors are reaching. Downvote me if that what you want, but will it change anything? Will the fact that you are SO offended by a puerto rican man putting a dark shade of makeup on his face for one picture really make this world better? I'm just tired of people bringing up the black face is just not ok just cause... or oh for historic reasons I feel very attacked. Bitch. This is 2017. Our gay asses have been through IT and beyond. Can we focus on REAL problems. Yes there is still racism for instance in work environments, but you guys need to focus on the real problems. Someone who puts makeup on in their San Juan bathroom for artistic reasons is not coming for your race. You just want to get self validation as to why you're still living in your mom's basement.

Well its true this bitch deserves to have her ass handed to her

Idk, she's not mocking or making fun of black people, she didn't exaggerate black features (like paint huge lips or a larger nose), she isn't wearing traditionally black hairstyles, she isn't posting videos talking with a "ghetto" accent in an effort to make a joke about black people, clearly the intent isn't malicious...

The true controversy here is that she looks like she got a bad tan. As a black person living in GA, USA, I can only speak for myself. I don't know if other black people share this opinion with me but I am in now way offended by this. It's not like she's a white sorority girl that painted herself brown for Halloween.

I am also not offended. It looks like she tried to become Patricia Krentcil.

it's not controversy, blackface is shitty and racist, bottom line cut and dry

[–]LouCifer_loves 3 ポイント4 ポイント  (0子コメント)

But she didn't do black face. She did brown face, a brown girl doing brown face.. No controversy here. Just a bunch of miserable misguided trolls with nothing better to do than start drama.

Yeah, maybe I should have used a better title, in no way I'm saying that the person is wrong on what their tweeting.

I know of four contestants who have now done black face (unless there's more). I wonder what the appeal is?

[–]Sexlisha_CruzKimora Blac 7 ポイント8 ポイント  (1子コメント)

Dark skin is actually beautiful. Not like adding a darker shade of makeup is ALWAYS MEANT AS an attack on a whole race and meant to bring up history about some dude who painted his face black back in the jurassic era.

And some queens paint darker as a default. But you wouldn't usually think about it if you're not used to seeing them painted lighter in the first place.

Who are the other contestants? I know about Charlie and Sharon

Willam did it in a video.

Raja. ANTM used to do black face casually. I don't really know if April's is black face, though. Everyone thought roxxxy did black face, but she was like, "bitches, I'm a Latina with a tan."

probably something about "drag is supposed to push boundaries" blablabla

[–]BlankNothingNoDoer 1 ポイント2 ポイント  (0子コメント)

I guess that much is true. I thought it might just be easier when you're putting makeup on, but that makes sense.

Drag does push boundaries of gender and even age (you can look a lot younger or older) but race/ethnicity is much more sensitive than gender or age.

What's the context here? Was April trying to look like whoever that is on the left?

EDIT: My head has had some complaints. But OMFG, what was she thinking?

[–]DanteDameronValentina[S] 9 ポイント10 ポイント  (0子コメント)

So April is starting this project that shows "different shades of Boricua's (Puerto ricans) heritage", we came from three main races, African, Spanish and Tainos (Caribbean Natives). The thing is, April is using her as the model for all the different skin tones, instead of using real people of the skin color she wants to represent as model, making this Black Face.

She is on the left

April is on the left, in blackface

I love those looks. It's not like she's making fun of a particular group of people - she's paying tribute to them. It's her art, not everyone is supposed to like it.

Girl chill the fuck down that's not black face, that's tan face at best. April is a brown Latina she has every right to paint her skin any shade of brown because SHE IS A BROWN PERSON. This reminds me of the time Queen Bey painted herself a beautiful shade of Nubian black for a small segment in Dreamgirls, people proceeded to loose their shit. And you know what she did? She said suck my dick and did it again for a photo shoot.

I am old enough to remember when RuPaul was accused of disowning his black heritage because he always wore blonde wigs (yes, this was a real issue).

It is interesting with the passage of time to see how the way we do things changes but also to see how the way we perceive it changes.

I'll get downvoted but I don't understand why people get so offended by 'black face'. I understand if the person doing it is being offensive and discriminatory but in this instance I don't think April is taking the mick in any way. Explain to me?

A race isn't a costume to wear for Instagram likes.
