It's ColOmbian, other than that I find it extremely ignorant how anglosaxons love to mock people's accents when they can't even pronounce "enchilada" without struggling

Thank you!!! As a Hispanic person in LA, it is very obvious that people with accents get treated very differently than people without. Even in the context of this show, people with any kind of accent are constantly plagued by the "language barrier" in any challenge that involves acting or comedy. Being able to switch between two dialects is called code-switching, people, and it is considered an asset.

..you can clock the flair I guess, but I'm just tired of this narrative overall.

Exactly even now when yara was on tour this past year with other rugirls, they would always make a joke like oh i don't know what she said but vblah blahblah.....I know trixy and Bianca said that a few times and yes it's funny but like come on Yara is fierce and fluent in rnglish now why put people down like that

She's obviously a theatre girl. We. love. enunciation. and she looks like a dead-ringer for Judy Funny in her confessionals.

Ugh thank you for finally opening up the dialogue. I've been waiting for some kind of discussion regarding this.

I just don't understand why people are trying to dissect the way she talks and totally witch-hunt every word she says in a different way.

People are mad at her because 1. she tries her best 2. the judges like her 3. some queens don't get as much screentime.

I was feeling like she was working the race like a Miss U contestant, I did not know that!

Doesn't she work in a high end boutique. This is literally her " professional" voice. We all do it.

The negativity surrounding Valentina is aggravating, shes doing her best - it's not her fault the judges like her and she doesn't choose what camera time other queens get .. and the very fact that her accent is being questioned is ridiculous, she aint lying bout her heritage!

People needed something to attack her for, the bitterness is high darling

People just like to criticize and nitpick when someone is doing good at something. I mean, even if she had an accent, drag is literally creating a new persona, a character, so she can talk however she wants.

Tbh I actually saw this backlash coming, it happened with Aja at the beginning of the ruvealed, the fan favorite attracts attention, good and bad.

A fake accent... a hat... the same grey hair bejewelled gloves in every runway... is she the second cumming of Miss Maxine?!

I wonder how much of it is like, how she might be made fun of for her more Spanish accent? And trying to avoid haters in that way? I know plenty of Spanish-speaking people who have struggled with sounding "dumb" and "silly" because of their pronunciations.

Spanish was my first language. She has a slight accent. I notice that sometimes her prepositions are incorrect.

The fact Valentina's so perfect the only thing people can talk shit about is the way she talks. Iconic.

Listen, I love Valentina, but her accent is weird. She doesn't actually speak Spanish that well (you can tell especially by the way she pronounces consonants like the Ls in "telenovela" and the D in "Amaldóvar". They're way too hard, like an English speaker would pronounce). She also did say "gracias" weird on the show for a Chicana; we don't talk like that.

I think Valentina grew up with English as her primary language, and she thinks that Spanish pronunciation (with the "th" sound) is more proper or something.

As for her English accent, that's just how Chicanos talk, especially here in the LA area.

What's even more irritating, as some other posters have said, is that people who don't speak even a tiny bit of Spanish are all of a sudden experts on the language. Spanish is spoken by a variety of cultures in LA, not just Mexicans. My Spanish sometimes has a hint of El Salvador or Nicaragua because of where I grew up. Same thing could be said about Valentina. Maybe someone close to her would say gracias with the -th at the end.

Or maybe, just maybe, she used it with the -th the same way Americans sometimes use a British accent. As a Spanish speaker, it really is no big deal.

A VER PERRAS. No. I'm from SouthAmerica and living in a bilingual home since I was born. Valentina is faking it, and trust me, there's no way she could pass off as a "she's soooooooooooooooooooooooooo spanish like, she can't pronounce english correctly zomg!" No way. Her accent does sound made up to put up a show. She's forcing her spanish accent, she couldn't even barely pronounce "Verjensita di Juadaluppe". I don't want to hear any goddamned excuses anymore.
