James Thompson for Kansas: Fight for America

James is a civil rights attorney in Wichita. He is running for Congress because he knows the opportunities afforded him helped change his life, and those opportunities need to be available to future generations. He is running for Congress to fight for America.

Raised in a difficult situation, James is no stranger to adversity. Rising from homelessness in childhood, James knew the U.S. Army could provide the ability to change his life. He went on to serve as a member of the Presidential Honor Guard

After his honorable discharge, he moved to Kansas to be close to family. He used the GI Bill to afford his education at Wichita State University and went on to earn his J.D. at Washburn Law.

After graduation, he married the love of his life, Lisa, with whom he is thrilled to raise a beautiful young lady, Liberty.

James is a civil rights attorney in Wichita. He is running for Congress because he knows while the opportunities afforded him helped change his life, those opportunities need to be available to everybody. He wants to make Kansas work for everyone.

JOBS. Kansas is falling further behind because of Sam Brownback's failed policies and D.C. politicians who don't listen to the people of Kansas. We need to empower our aviation industry to thrive while investing in diversifying our local economy. Our key focus should be developing an atmosphere where high-paying, non-exportable jobs can flourish.

EDUCATION. Education is truly the key to erasing poverty and everyone knows it. With a daughter in Kansas public schools, James is afraid that, thanks to Brownback's cuts and squabbling Washington insiders, she won't get the same opportunities he enjoyed. We need to fully fund our schools while making our higher education as inexpensive and accessible as possible. Great Kansas schools mean great Kansas jobs.

VETERANS. Our brave men and women in uniform make tremendous sacrifices. It's an outrage that we allow D.C. to ignore our veterans and their families while insiders cut their benefits, scale back services and pass the buck. James wants to be a voice for Kansas veterans in Congress.

From the Wichita Eagle: Thompson praises Mayflower Clinic, pans Brownback Medicaid veto vote

Thompson praises Mayflower Clinic, pans Brownback Medicaid veto vote BY DION LEFLER dlefler@wichitaeagle.com James Thompson, the Fourth District Democratic congressional candidate, visited a charity clinic run by volunteer physicians and nurses on Monday and criticized the state Legislature for upholding Gov. Sam Brownback’s veto of a bill to expand Medicaid. “This clinic serves about 1,000 people a year, all pro bono,” Thompson said after touring the Mayflower Clinic in downtown Wichita. “If we had 150 of these around here, we maybe could make up for the health care we just lost by not expanding Medicaid.” The state Legislature voted last month to expand Medicaid for potentially tens of thousands of uninsured Kansans but fell short Monday of the two-thirds majority needed to override Brownback’s veto of the bill.   Read the rest of the story here.
