Hopefully the team will be full of confidence going into the next few matches. If we manage to beat Chelsea on Sunday, its gonna be epic.

Glad to see Rashfrod back on the score sheet.

Mkhi too. I hope they both gained some confidence with their finishing for both Thursday and Sunday because we're gonna need them to be full of confidence.

Comments from Mourinho's post-match interview and press conference:

A GOOD WIN AGAINST A SAD TEAM

"The result was good," Jose said. "We resisted the results of yesterday when Manchester City and Liverpool won, they left us in a position of 'yes' or 'no'. It was 'yes'. We got three points and it was a solid display.

"It was against a team that is sad, it's normal. Against a team that is sad, if you score before then it's difficult for them to react. You could feel the negative feeling around the team. That is felt with a team is close to relegation. We started positively. I’m not saying very aggressive in terms of the intensity of our game but comfortable and in control. When you score a goal, you play against a sad team. And when you score before them, normally in these circumstances, you kill the match and in the second half, with the second goal, against 10 men, it was comfortable. Not a brilliant performance but a comfortable one."

PLEASED FOR LUKE SHAW

“I took Shaw off because of the yellow card and the pressure from the crowd," Jose said, discussing the recalled left-back. "It was good to protect him but it was also good for him to play one hour with a good solid performance and no mistakes, so I'm really pleased for him.”

THE IMPORTANCE OF ZLATAN'S GOAL

“It was open at 0-0. We were in control without danger. We were playing quite compact and solid. You need these players to break it. Every team has a couple of them. Zlatan did that. It’s very important and one more goal for him is a beautiful number that he’s getting [28 goals this season]. We felt the game was in our pocket. In this beautiful weather, the game was played at a more slow intensity.”

NOT ALWAYS EASY AGAINST 10 MEN

“When the 10 men are not losing they can close, they can be more defensive, they can park the bus and defend. When they are losing and they have one player less, they try to attack, they have one player less, they open more spaces and normally you win the game.”

TIMING OF SECOND GOAL WAS PERFECT

“I told them in the second half we had to go to kill the game. It was under control but we needed the second goal to kill mentally the opponent. But I didn’t expect that it was after one minute. I was thinking it had to be after a solid period of intensity for our attacking football. But we started the game, scored a goal and killed it.”

I almost feel bad for Moyes. The guy was completely depressed on the bench. Sunderland have a horrible squad, especially with van Aanholt (their 2nd leading scorer this season from LB!) and Mcnair out.

Some of their players should be nowhere near the Premier League. Part of that is on Moyes because he brought in former Everton players. He has too much loyalty, sometimes to a fault.

I'm commenting purely on Sunderland because their putridity is mostly why we looked so comfortable. I can't wait until next season when Jose makes his squad overhaul and gets the kind of players he wants. Hopefully he also looks hard at our youth system. We need more homegrown players in our squad (IF they're good enough).

I'll take the win, still much to improve attacking wise but good to score 3 in one game and get some momentum going ahead of Europa on Thursday.

Shaw looked to have got some confidence back and great to see Rash on the score sheet.

At the time I thought Larsson's red card was really harsh but then the more I have seen of it since (MoTD had a good angle) the more I realised how dangerous it actually was. If it had connected with Herrera then it could have been really bad and I don't think red cards should only come with injuries, we should be looking at stopping players from committing those challenges in the first place. e.g. I still think the tackle on Shaw when he broke his leg was dangerous and should have been punished to try to dissuade players from making those kind of full-blooded tackles.

Anyway the match itself was fine. We started poorly and slowly and Sunderland looked well up for it. Anichebe was doing a decent enough job up front for them and, for about 10 mins, I was impressed with them. Then we scored out of nothing, Larsson was sent off and with the goal 45 secs after the restart, it basically became a training exercise.

The third goal kind of showed how I want us to set up from an attacking point of view - Rashford on one side of Ibra and Martial on the other. If we can get Shaw up to match fitness and Valencia back bombing up his wing then we'd have a pretty balanced and strong attack with them overlapping.

Behind that front 3 we could have Pogba and Herrera sitting behind Mkhi in games against weaker opposition, or move Mkhi up instead of Rashford and bring in Carrick for the strong opposition.

More than anything though, I want to see some cohesiveness in the starting XIs and some kind of regular system.

Big positives I am taking from this game are the performances of our fullbacks. I think Shaw was our best player in the first 60 minutes by a stretch. He created the most chances out of anyone in our team and had more attacking influence than our attacking midfielders. I've so missed a left back who has attacking ability and can just bomb on the way Shaw does.

Darmian to as lesser extent had a promising performance. It was his first solid game in a really long time. Still don't think he has it in him to be a long term option but it is good to have as many reliable backups as possible for the remainder of the season.

Was also happy with the performances of Rashford and Martial. Both looked hungry and Rashford's goal will do his confidence a world of good.

Back to Europa FC for now. A hefty win on Thursday should be a good boost for a massive game on Sunday. Anderlecht's main striker and top scorer seems to be injured or a serious doubt so that would be perfect.

Quite a professional display from the boys yesterday, good to finally get a win after those frustrating draws. Sunderland look absolutely dire, shame that we won't be getting Tyne Wear Derbies 2 seasons in a row. Despite scoring, Mkhi and Rashford were poor, I hope the goals help them kick on.

My Ratings

Romero - 8

Darmian - 7 Bailly - 8 Rojo - 8 Shaw - 8

Fellaini - 6 Herrera - 7 Pogba - 6

Mkhitaryan - 6 Zlatan - 9 Lingard - 6
