Shipping and New Resins

Hey guys!

We finally received all the official certifications for the printer in the mail this week!

We already have all the components laid out in our Shenzhen facility, and they are ready to be assembled as soon as the certification logos are engraved. We should have the first batch of printers ready to ship the last week of February.

Please check your BackerKit accounts! We will be locking in addresses on February 19, so that we can have everything organized when shipping begins. If you lost the link to your account, you can have it resent to you here: https://olo.backerkit.com/. This is especially important for those of you who have still not completed all their information. If your BackerKit account is incomplete, we cannot ship you your order.

Every backer will have their printer(s) in hand by the end of March!

If you are planning on moving sometime in March and are unsure of where you will be, send an email to sales@ono3d.net explaining the details, and we will work it out with you.

New Resins!

This past week, we have concluded our tests on a new formulation of resins that will cure faster than the old ones. On top of that, we were able to make some small adjustments to the app that has led us to cut printing times in half!

To show you an example, we printed the part below, which takes up the full print area of an ONO (126 x 74 x 52 mm). This took 2.5 hours and only 468 ml (less than half a bottle!) of castable resin. We used an OnePlus One phone, which has a mid-range brightness - with a brighter screen (such as an iPhone 6), you could print the full height in 2 hours!

All the new resins have already passed their assessments and we’ll ship them with your orders, so that you only get the best there is to offer!

This was printed in 2.5 hours, but could be printed in 2!
This was printed in 2.5 hours, but could be printed in 2!

We took a time-lapse video of the printing process, and that should be uploaded in the next few days!

Have a great weekend!

No updates, no shipping notifications, 10 days to go before the end of March. Has any backer heard anything yet?

"Every backer will have their printer(s) in hand by the end of March!" They must be extremely confident that everything is going well and as planned if they can say a comment like such. I hope that everything IS going well and as planned. Seeing as to what happened with the Tiko 3D printer, I lost my money on that one too. So if they tell us at the last moment that they are not going through with finishing this, then I will be extremely disappointed. I am still very upset with how the team members at Tiko handled their situation, but I am having some faith that ONO will surprise me by the end of the month! Hopefully we get some sort of feedback soon.

So from the last update it seems we should be seeing our printers at anytime. So the obvious question, I don't find the app on Google Play store!

Really pleased we are getting updates of sorts, but we have been here before.
I think @Leonidas has got it spot on with the abusive spouse analogy - keep believing because you really want it to work but really all knowing we are being spun another line. At least an abusive spouse usually apologizes for their behaviour.
I'd put a hefty bet that not a single backer gets a single printer by April 1st but the bruises are healing and maybe this time they mean it, maybe they have changed and really do love us???

    12. Yotraxx on February 9

@Manu: EXACTLY ! There's a LACK communication from the beginning ! An that's why I don't trust OLO for a long time now.

Not only it's totally disrespectful (Said I arrogant ?) for their backers, but they lost us in a maze of true/false infos from the beginning, just to gain time from my point of view.
The fact they don't reply AT ALL on kickstarter but prefer to communicate through their "website", Facebook, or maiker-fairs (the worst), said it all...

Does anyone see any fonctionnnal proto ? Even in timelapse ? Me neither.

I really think OLO is struggled with resins, specifically... that's said, and said again...

I'm sainting for march now, as everyone else...

@Bumgurgle I'd really love to cut them slack, but there's so many inconsistencies. Look in this very post. They've changed their formulation just now, for what they anticipate shipping in 2-3 weeks. Think about that. I would love it if they did a Q&A, but they don't. As a matter of fact, over on Facebook someone associated with the project basically said we shouldn't be negative, because otherwise they might not get to ship anything at all.

@Thomas Charron does an excellent job of pointing out the history of similar sounding 'just next month!' announcements.
it does start to sound like the Twentieth Century Motor Car Corporation. :-/
fingers crossed, because I would love to have it work. :-)
but the history makes it feel a bit like going back to an abusive spouse. :-/

"We already have all the components laid out" isnt that what you said a few months back and had a picture of them "layed out"? i will believe it when i see it.

Thanks for the Copy Paste... But we kinda knew this already months ago!

How is the Sales Pitching going? i see alot of videos of you "selling" the prodcut elsewhere like its already complete.

Thanks for the update. Would have been nice to hear some of that before now, butsounds promising at least. With regards to the different phone screens, will it be trial and error to see if it will do the shorter print time? Or is there a way to confirm?
Please let us know how it is progressing, if there's any more delays etc

Alex, ONO is clearly working on their product and I would even say hard. They are poor at communicating, that we all agree. But if anyone is on such a tight schedule to get the printer why don't they buy a similar one that is already on the market? Yes, that's right, because there isn't any. If anyone doesn't know about the failure of ibox nano can research to see just how upset they could have been to back it.
They are not microsoft or apple or whatever big company you name it to have experience and expertise etc. And even those big companies make errors. Look at galaxy note 7. This topic is a can of worms but clearly THE GUYS ARE WORKING ON IT!

I manage projects and it's me who has to stand in front of the investors and explain any delay. I'm well aware of unforeseen issues and painfully aware how hard it is to stand in front of the investors and explain. All I ask is for the same courtesy here to me as an investor.

While you kick back and relax I'm going to get some projects delivered.

Nice update. I think I may need the resin subscription package!

It would be nice to have a +/- comment rating to push the negative Nancy's to the bottom and avoid all their negativism. Kickstart is not a store. You back projects and receive something in return. Projects do fail. Until you've actually been involved with a project you can't imagine how many unexpected things can happen.

With over a hundred projects backed between Kickstarter and Indiegogo I've had only one scam and one failure. And yes, two projects I have backed are over a year late, but I have confidence they will deliver. Which means the majority are created by well intentioned, honest people (who are mostly optimistic about their delivery times).

Yet more than half the projects I backed have been called a scam. Please, if you don't understand how Kickstarter works, go to Amazon or Ali Express.

It's lovely that some of you can be so relaxed about a constantly slipping delivery date and adorable that you still have faith when you've been constantly misled and let down. It's great also that you knew that delivery would be way behind what ONO stated, well done.

Just out of interest (I'm trying to get out of my bubble) how long are you willing to wait and be out of pocket? Another 6 months, 12, 18? Fancy buying a brand new Wii U off me?

And to assist you getting out of your bubble: have some respect for those who had faith that ONO knew how to plan and programme a product delivery schedule and have now had to put up with poor communication and a date that slips more with every update (the current update implies they have gone back a week).

    26. Bumgurgle on February 3

@Thomas - And so what if they do. Programs of this nature have a lot of natural dips and turns. You hope to plan for all possible issues, but it's just not physically possible. I know you'll likely never read this, but each Kickstarter has a pile of these Debbie Downer types that have never had to actually create, make and release a thing in their life. Frankly the ONO team is hitting right where I thought this project would fall. I knew their first delivery dates were way too optimistic.

The only real mistake would be if they apply the same optimism to their next project or don't incorporate what they've learned.

Good work guys. I know just how challenging getting those Certs can be. And with the nature of the resins you're using it had to be even tougher. I eagerly await a finished product.

..how is the iPhone app shaping up?

Thanks for the update. You wrote, 468ml, is it actually 46.8ml?
It's assembled in China. Does it mean then, it's shipped from China?

    30. Thomas Charron on February 3

Pleased to have a more concrete ship date? Did people actually read anything historically? Here, let's go back.

" When are you shipping?: We will be shipping in early January. For more information, see our previous update here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/olo3d/olo-the-first-ever-smartphone-3d-printer/posts/1738250"

"Shipping to all these countries definitely has its challenges, but we are we are resolving these issues so that we can get ONO to you by early January. "

Oct 15th: "This is the final step before shipping, so we hope to have the packages shipped to you in the next 4 to 6 weeks."

"There are 2 days left to complete your shipping address! As we mentioned in our last update, we are finalizing everything in preparation for shipping in October. "

"After hearing back from suppliers and manufacturers, we have a better idea of when we will be able to start shipping Kickstarter rewards. We estimate that packages will be shipped by the end of October."

"The final molds were put into production and are estimated to be completed by August 24, at which point we will be able to make 1200 ONO bodies a day. Once the bodies are complete, the components need to be installed and all the accessories packaged together and shipped. "

"To be included in the September shipment, please complete your survey by Midnight, Pacific Standard Time on Wednesday, June 22, 2016. "

These sorts of updates are scattered all over the place, and in many cases, contain information that logically doesn't make sense, and the creator refuses to simply say what the hell is going on. For everyone saying, "Good job!", well. I guess everyone deserves a medal. I will gladly bet anyone 50$ that either they will NOT ship by the end of February, or they will claim to have done a 'limited shipment' to mysterious people who aren't the backers, or are closely tied to the company itself.

Thanks for the update, appreciated as always. I'm very excited to be getting it soon! I have one question about the app/printer, though. I may have missed it somewhere, but say you design a solid figure to print. Will there be a way to print it hollow or with some infill design to save on resin or will you need to design the figure that way to start with?

So how about releasing the phone app? Seems like independent of the hardware we should have been able to try out the app. How about publishing an instruction manual so when we receive everything we will know how to use it?

Neil Frazer, I looked at it like sending us a printer was their way of saying thank you for backing their project and making it happen. I am so happy to hear things are finally coming to a conclusion. This will actually be given to my son as a gift, he knows nothing about that part, only that I backed it. First backing for me and so far I am pleased with the progress. Not so impressed with the bitching about not having it yet. Not like they have them on a shelf in the back room ready to go when they got the money. Jeeze people, take a breath and relax. We are not 5 yr olds waiting for Santa, show some patience.

I've been quietly watching this project and I'm glad to have a more concrete shipping date. Yes they could have been more open with the updates. I am however disappointed with the amount of bitching and moaning on here. Kickstarter and the other crowd funding sites are just a way for a company to fund project. You are not buying a product. You are pledging to give them money to develop a product. In return they have agreed to give you one of the first products off the production line. Product development takes time. There are ALWAYS unforeseen problems and delays. Get over yourselves and be greatfull that the project hasn't failed like so many others. Then you would get nothing. They are under no obligation to give you a refund.

I'm not sure why everyone is so excited for this news, we were all supposed to have this thing in September if you all remember! I don't know what is going to take them 3 MORE WEEKS to just have a "batch" engraved ready to ship. If they got the certificates this week, then the engraving should have been ready to go the next day and that first batch should have been ready to ship next week. I didn't get the $85 early deal like a bunch of people, after shipping cost I got the $145 package and since this thing is only going to be $100 for the base unit, after buying resin and shipping it's he same price. If I don't have a shipping notice by March 1st then I'm cutting my ties and keeping my money.
