Doppio is a double-sided kitchen knife made from Japanese steel. One side has a regular blade and the other an equally sharp serrated blade giving you the most versatile kitchen knife you have ever owned. 

 

When it comes to preparing food, whether you’re prepping a meal or simply sorting out a quick snack, you will need to use kitchen knives in one way or another. Kitchen knives come in all shapes and sizes, they have different edges, and they are made from different materials. We spent last 14 months creating a knife that is beautiful, high quality, sharp and the most practical kitchen knife ever created.

Doppio will quickly earn its own place in your kitchen and will be your go-to knife for everything. It is well known that every chef has a favorite knife, the one they can rely on and the one that ultimately gets used for everything. This double-sided kitchen knife will become that favorite knife. 

A double-sided knife allows you to peel, slice and dice without changing blades. A serrated edge will slice a perfectly ripened tomato, for instance, with ease while a straight edge may struggle to penetrate the tough skin. Likewise slicing the top off a loaf while baking to allow for expansion is easier with a serrated edge. Chopping up herbs into fine pieces will work better with a straight edge than a serrated. There are so many instances when both knives can come in handy and Doppio gives you the best of both.

 

  • The Doppio edge has a 15 degree blade angle and hardened to 57 Rockwell hardness.
  • Doppio Japanese steel hardened from 1020°C-1060°C which gives optimum corrosion resistance to the knife.
  • Easy to grip handle is ideal for both right and left handed.
  • The center of gravity is at the center of the knife for better balance.
  • A well designed rounded tip even makes chopping easier on harder vegetables.

 

There are essentially two types of blade on any knife: a serrated edge or a straight edge. Both blades have different uses in the kitchen and one can do what the other can not hence the need for having both or more than one of each. Any chef will tell you that both serrated and straight edge knives are essential in any kitchen. Doppio helps you cut any food items without having you to change between knives!

 

The serrated edge is most suited to cutting items that have a hard outer edge such as bread where a sawing motion is required to cut slices. A serrated edge is often called a bread knife and is a very useful knife to have. Fruits and vegetables such as tomatoes or pineapples become easy to slice with a knife with a serrated edge. With Doppio, the serrated blade is well made and a gentle sawing action requires little pressure to slice through even the hardest of bread crusts or most slippery tomato skin. 

Let’s say you are cutting bread or harder food items and apply a little pressure, those individual serrated blade teeth are penetrating easier than straight edge and let you cut food items gently, while serrated sharp teeth penetrate and deep in, we can take advantage of the curvature on the serrated edge.

The straight edge is very much an all-purpose blade. Best suited to peeling fruits and vegetables and slicing or carving meat, a straight or regular edge is perhaps the most common knife in any kitchen. To ensure true sharpness on Doppio, we brought the blade angle to 15 degree and used Japanese steel!  

Nearly every kitchen will have one or more of both knives because each knife is very different in its purpose to the other. Now all the uses come together in one tool.

The quality of any knife depends on the quality of the materials used. One of the most important considerations in choosing a knife is quality of the steel used to make the blade. A lower quality or sub-standard steel that dulls easily, requires regular sharpening and is a struggle to actually get razor sharp. At Doppio, after a long research and testing, we choose to use Japanese steel for our knives because of its Rockwell hardness rate (57hrc) and long term durability. 

The 8.2-inch blade is made from the high quality Japanese steel and is the same length as a standard Chef’s Knife. Japanese steel is considered the premium quality steel for kitchen knives in the world. Tempered and toughened to ensure the blade is strong and can be sharpened to razor sharp (and stay sharp) levels, Doppio's knife blade is manufactured by artisans with many years’ experience.

We designed the center of gravity at the center of the knife, so it’d be well balanced to give more comfortable feel to it. 

This double-edged blade not only addresses the convenience of having both a serrated and straight edge blade in one knife but is high quality throughout. Expert craftsmanship combined with exceptionally high quality materials make this double-edged knife one you will be proud to own.

 

 

We designed Doppio with the option of two different blade finishes. 

Hand Hammered finish, helps release the food from the blade easily when slicing. Doppio Hammered blade model is hammered by hand to a beautiful finish that reduces drag when cutting and preventing food from sticking to the blade. Each Blade is hammered individually so that is making each Doppio hammered knife unique.

Regular Blade, is a smooth beautiful finish that shines all the way on the blade. The idea behind Doppio is a kitchen knife for everyone, so if you like more plain and crispy looking blade then this regular blade is a great option for you.

 

The second most important part of a knife is the handle. Having a handle that is easy to grip, strong and comfortable is important to any chef or home user. Since the Doppio is a double-sided knife, we designed its rounded handle to simply flip and use the knife easily with any side of the knife. The blade is great for right and left handed chefs alike. The bolster, edge and grip are all symmetrical. The preferred Olive Wood and Thermoplastic material for our handles and the high quality blade complement each other to create a well-balanced, sharp, safe and trustworthy knife that every kitchen should have. 

 

 

How often have you been in the kitchen and needed to keep changing knives to chop, slice and dice? How often do you wish you could swap between a slicing knife and a peeling knife without having to hunt for another knife? 

It is frustrating isn’t it, especially when you are preparing food in a limited space, out camping or around the barbecue. Sometimes you wish you could just rinse off the blade and cut or perfectly slice the next item without hunting for another blade.

At long last, this common problem is over. You can now slice or carve your salami and slice your fresh crispy bread to make the perfect sandwich all with one knife, the double-sided kitchen knife. You can slice a tomato or two and then some cheese on the side, all without the same knife leaving your hand. You just rinse or wipe it over and carry on. No longer do you need two knives for two jobs, you can use one and just reverse it or flip it over. 

 

We went through dozens of designs, prototypes, testings and manufacturing samples to create a double sided knife with the right handle design, for not only its practical usage but also its aesthetically pleasing look. Last 14 months, while designing drafts and estimating the balance centers on the knife, we've also tested our knives with chefs and cooks to get their feedback to create an intuitive double sided knife for everyone. And Finally, we've finalized the design that everyone will love to use! 

 

We are here to raise enough funds to bring the double-sided kitchen knife, Doppio to market. We need your help to raise $6,500 to establish production of the double-sided kitchen knife in sufficient quantities to reduce the retail price to make the product more affordable for our backers. In supporting this campaign, you will be playing your part in bringing a unique and useful cooking utensil to market making life easier for many chefs or anyone who cooks professionally or for the family at home. We have the suppliers and skilled manufacturers lined up and ready to go, we just need your help to bring Doppio to life.

 

Risks and challenges

We already have fully established relationships with our steel and wood/thermoplastic suppliers. If any unseen problem occurs, we will let our backers know about it and we will overcome them easily. However we don't see any further challenges now and we will ship all the rewards on time. We are completely confident that we will get our project delivered to backers on schedule as we have very strong connections with our professional manufacturers. We will share every step of our manufacturing with our backers through updates, including pictures and videos.
