This will be an unpopular opinion, but as I'm watching these games that as we get to the final 1/3 we have very few people that will take the initiative and go 1v1 with the defenders. As well as missing speed on the wings.

Young and Valencia are now wing-backs. Zaha is roaring at Palace. Lingard wants to play as a 10 and keeps pushing inside. If he's on the wing he needs to stay there because he just crowds out the middle of the park and eliminates his availability as an outside outlet. Memphis is gone as well. We've also sold Nani, Welbeck, and Di Maria. All people who could play as an outside winger. That isn't to say even about selling Hernandez as a partner up top who played off a striker.

Rashford and Martial could play well in a 4-3-3 but they need to be playing IMO as a pair off each other rather than adopted wide forwards. They also rarely ever play opposite each other in a game meaning they typically just replace one another as a sub.

But the primary concern here is that because of LVG all risk taking has been taken away from the team. Players don't want to go 1v1 and we've lost the ability to play true wingers due to multiple causes.

The thing I'm most frustrated about that Jose does is not playing real wingers in 4-4-2 or 4-1-4-1 setup. These are IMO the winning formations this team should be playing for defensive solidarity and attacking prowess. They also allow for the most interplay between players while also allowing the players to be rotated in the easiest. Combine this with the fact that we have 9 players who play center midfield means the center of the park is always full and congested. (Fellaini, Herrera, Mata, Lingard, Miki, Rooney, Carrick, Pogba, Blind)

I'm also tired of not seeing the youth players play. Sometimes you need that young kid who has the guts to make a play and know that he has experienced veterans behind him that can help him if he makes a mistake. Fosu isn't playing, Tuanzebe isn't playing, Matty Willock seems to be promising but he hasn't played either.

We have a team that should have enough rotation so that players shouldn't be tired. This is Manchester United and playing 70+ games a year should not be a problem with a properly rotated (which is a massive failing of Jose's) squad. Carrick should be able to play once every 7-10 days with enough backup to contain if we need others.

Shaw hasn't performed but I don't really blame him after what happened last season. When I saw him and Memphis roaring down the side it reminded me of Uncle Evra. As well when our best outside backs are converted wingers you see the problem. Darmian IMO needs to go.

Finally playing the rotation. I rarely ever see a pass that goes from one side to the other. They almost always have a stop in the middle for either Carrick and/or Herrera before it makes it to the outside backs. By which time, the defense has already positioned itself against Utd. and we keep having to rotate back and forth once again not allowing for the quick cross and the 1v1 to create penetration.

TLDR: We need to find a solution on the wings and the 4-3-3 isn't working because we don't have true wingers able to penetrate 1v1s on the wing or take advantage of overlapping runs to play into the middle. As well we never take a short cut bypassing the middle.
