I'm actually willing to believe it. It would fit their ideological bullshit to make the females a bit more "average" looking so as not to be "sexually objectified" by straight men.

Combine that with their complete ineptitude at facial animations, and their insistence on using majority non-white characters, and boom, ugly females.

That is pretty much what happened. What makes me mad is they did it with the asari also who have always been known as a very sexually attractive race. Hell almost every single asari starts out her younger years being a stripper. Its a point where they say fuck the lore my thoughts as a women should be more important then this fictional world that really starts to make this rediculous.

I disagree. I think they (this team, anyway) are bad at their jobs but if you look at the model they based the female Ryder off you can quite clearly see they've also made significant changes to make her uglier.

Also, the males in the game are for the most part quite handsome, but all the females are horrendous.

It's a proportion issue.

Shepard is around 8.5 heads tall, while Ryder is around 7 (accounting for hair). It's not technically wrong, but it is contrary to what most people expect.

That's entirely my point - the art direction in the game is poor. Despite the high quality textures and shading for their in-game engine, the aesthetics for most of the characters and dressings are, for lack of a better word, dumpy.

For me, video games are escapist fantasy, and that's really what I (and probably most people) expect. ME 2 & 3 really delivered on this. John/Jane Sheppard were cool to look at for 60+ hours. They were in cool places. They had cool stuff.

I don't want to spend 60 hours playing a game featuring Schlomo the Accountant and the Ikea Space Station.

EA's problem is that when they bought Bioware it had its key talent in place. But over the years most of that has gone, replaced by "diversity hires" I'm guessing the remaining staff had a hand in hiring.

In other words the radical lefties remaining would only hire others with similar political opinions. Thus further driving out reasonable leftists orright lwaning staff.

Let's face it; if you were working with people who were that emotionally rabid about intersectional feminism would you want to stay? Look at the recent Glassdoor bioware reviews for just how horrible it is to work there during current year.

Well, it probably depends on how ME:A sells. I get the impression BW and in turn EA wrote the story to allow for a whole series of follow on games. I wouldn't be surprised if EA had intended to turn the series into an sci-fi RPG version of COD and milk it like a cash cow.

Well, ME:A had the worst launch of all multiplat ME titles in the UK (ME1 was a time Xbox exclusive. Would probably be even less if it wasn't for pre order culture and hype cycles. Moreover I doubt ME:A will have any legs sale-wise.

Total sales numbers might look OK in a vacuum, but compared to the sales expectacions associated with big IP's ....... Andromeda was a dud.

I guess EA will throw out the SJW garbage for the next entry of the series (and pretty much all of their games), just because Ghost Recon (not a great game, yet no SJW content) is selling like crazy.

I'm speculating on EA's stance pre-release. I'm aware the game hasn't been a huge success post launch. Of course I didn't except it to be as good considering most of Bioware's lead designers left the company post ME3 when EA acquired it.

I kind of wish they'd just led the ME line die away in dignity as opposed to dragging it along until it becomes a ghost of what it used to be.

A lot of the crash in quality had to do with losing the series' main writers Drew Karpyshyn and Chris "Stormwaltz" L'Etoile during development of ME:2 and Casey Hudson taking over. The storyline and planned conclusion changed drastically. You can see this in a few places in ME:2 (Heastrom's strange anomaly was meant to be important to the plot and were part of the reaper's origins) and a lot more in ME:3 when they ran out of prescribed sub plots and backstory. Thessia and on the game had almost no extended story and the gameplay flow devolved into a WoW raid where you clear trash mobs between each boss, either the game was just severely rushed, or anyone with serious writing chops had already left and they could no longer maintain the game's story quality and pacing.

Funny story to prove this: during my latest completion of the series (I happened to have played ME a number of times, but never in succession importing the character to each subsequent game, shame on me, I know), I built a perfect Shepard, practically became Shepard in terms of my choices, lived the game. So I chose Tali (as always) for the romance and during the moment where she gives you the option to take things further I missclicked and chose the safe option (which was the wrong one, as I now know), so she kinda reverted back to default behavior, as if there was no romance. I was devastated, because my last save was like 5 hours ago and it was just before the end of the game. I completed the game, modified the save file to include romance with Tali, so that in the next game we could have this touching reunion. I'm normally not very emotional, but this was a heart-breaking mistake. Tali is top tier indeed.

But it's not just the female characters. The male characters are ugly as fuck too. And have the same fucked up eyes and lack of emotion. And all the characters run like they have a huge shit in their underwear.

I don't know how to say this without offending some people, but the ME:A characters all look like a mix of retarded and autistic. They don't show any emotion or seem to react to things with any sort of real human emotion. Father's dead? Oh well, look at this smile on my face! And my dead eyes! And on top of that, all of the dialog and interactions are. . . cringe-inducing. I have seen multiple characters so far in romantic situations play the "aw shucks gosh I'm so awkward" thing which I can only imagine are the writers infusing their own socially-awkward experiences into the game (and EVERY single fucking character).

Earlier Mass Effect games were filled with bad asses being suave and clever and making awesome quips. This one is just like they took a high school full of autistic socially retarded ugly SJWs and shoved them onto a space station and told them to save the world.
