Hey guys, first post anywhere on Reddit but wanted to share a story after a recent post I read on here. I live in buttfuck nowhere Alberta, all the work out here is rough oil patch jobs dominated by men (go figure). Recently while on my way to work I picked up a hitchhiker, he was a younger man, like myself, and anytime I see someone walking the sides of the highway in winter conditions here I pick them up. This guy was in a rough place, he'd been fired from a service rig job earlier that morning and had been told to walk his way back to town (almost 70kms). He only had his coveralls on and no coat. He'd also walked 10k from the site before me picking him up. I brought him to the bank in town where he was going to get money to go back home down in southern BC someplace. I wished him well and shook his hand, I swear I almost saw him tear up.
The thing is guys are in these shit situations all the time. Nobody gives a fuck about us and just going out of your way the littlest bit makes a difference. I don't know how many people drove by him before I picked him up, but shame on all of them. Some slut walking the road wouldn't get one foot in front of the other before someone stopped. A guy though? Fuck him, he can walk. Don't be the asshole who drives by, give your brothers a ride.
