Any positives?

I'll start, Bailly and Rojo is the best partnership we've put out this season and could be fantastic going into the future

Second this, but I still think we need a sturdier signing in the summer.

We didn't concede from a set piece I guess is a positive thing, which means we can defend better than Arsenal

Thought Lingard also looked very positive. He's picked up a lot of confidence this season. Still don't think he'll ever reach world class levels, but yesterday another reminder that he's an exciting player and a valuable part of the squad.

I was a bit worried about it, they're two very...physical centre-backs but as long as they can keep themselves out of the refs book, I'd be happy with them starting together more.

Poor performance and played right into their hands. Uninspired performance all round apart from the defence.

Gk- clean sheet and had nothing to do all game apart from his slip up.

Defence- 2nd best defence in the league says it all. Cut out any threat before it happened. Bailly strong and commanding and Rojo strong and good on the ball to bring the ball forward. Full backs were ok but they need to sort out their offensive output and vary up their crossing because it's too predictable.

Midfield - Good enough with what we had. Fellaini again never gives us a half arsed performance so props to him and Carrick was his usual self. With Pogba and Herrera back in, I hope we can create some more high quality opportunities because Pogba is our most creative player. Overall average tbh.

Attack- Now this annoyed me. No movement in the box, no one attacked crosses, same old crosses directly to the giant back four of West Brom instead of balls along the fall. Players wanted the ball to feet instead of making runs and no one was looking to get in behind the defenders. It was an all round poor performance up front.

We need to be more clinical, play to our strengths and punish the opposition's weaknesses which wasn't crosses into the box.

Better for us to win on Tuesday for us to forget the bitter taste of this shit match .

Poor game for everyone up front. Infuriating to watch us throw away golden chances that were few and far between yesterday. Also infuriating to watch yet another team come to OT and camp in their own half and not want to play football.

Hopefully they will make up for it against Everton because we will have Zlatan, Herrera and hopefully Pogba. All in all, summer needs to hurry up.

we need to concede possession to these teams at home. just because we can monopolise possession doesn't mean we should. id rather we instructed our forwards to run at players no matter where they are and risk losing the ball frequently, with our mids such as fella and carrick sitting back deep. this would invite the opposition onto us and hopefully break their 2 banks of 5 we have seen so frequently.

fuck knows if it would be feasible or whether it would work but we aren't good at breaking down packed defences.

thoughts?

I think we are little messy in terms of team selection, no Ibra we got 1 proper winger in Martial and he loves to cut inside witch is ok, but Rashford with so many position changes just lack cutting edge for solo striker and on other wing we have nothing. No natural left back, and funny our beast right back don't have proper winger to work with on his side. Must buy left back, right winger and holding midfielder. We even play good consider situation we are in, plus we are not out of top 4 Liverpool will choke i can feel it :)

Frustrating game to say the least. I'm hoping I can watch the game a second time through to observe each team's tactics more closely.

It was very clear how west brom wanted to set up. When we held the ball in the middle third, west brom sat 4 across the back with 5 in midfield, most notably a midfield three congesting the middle of the park. When we moved into the final third, west brom shifted to a narrow flat four with wing backs on either side. This setup as a 6-3-1 which resulted in a stagnant United attack.

It neutered us; overlapping runs from young and Valencia were futile at best. Additionally, Martial and Jesse had little space to take players on and get in behind. Early on I thought to myself, the only way we beat these bastards is if we capitalize on a mental mistake or catch them in transition.

Then the 67th minute came. A poor clearance from west brom hits mkhitaryan in the torso and he's through. This is it. Micky is gonna bury this and we're on to the top 4. But no. My hopes are dashed as Foster makes a great save to keep it 0-0.

After that miss I was confident it would end 0-0. What a shame.

I don't think it's the end of the world just yet tho. We're 6 points off Liverpool with two games in hand. We're 4 points off city even on games. If we win our 2 games in hand, we're level on points with Liverpool in 4th place. We're also in Europa quarters with some great draws.

EDIT: Completely left out an additional thought. Did this game show us how reliant we are on a 35 year old (going on 36 in October) Ibrahimovic? Is this cause for concern? Ibra does such a great job holding up play and allowing players to make runs off him in behind. I felt we lacked that today. Hopefully Rashford can develop and add this to his repertoire.

That tackle that Rojo put in on Rondon, whilst on a yellow card might I add, was class!!! Talk about composure, it was in the box for gods sake.

Enjoying watching him grow.

That ball from Lingard where he put it in between their back four and the keeper was infuriating and sums up the game for me, all 3 of Rashford, Martial and Mkhi were stood near the edge of the box and no one attacked the ball.

Thought we were putting in too many crosses as well, not only are West Brom known for having monstrous physical players but all of our attackers are poor in the air and the crosses were wank.

Even weirder when you realise all 4 of our attackers excel at those little 1-2 quick passes on the edge of the box.

I genuinely think De Gea was bored to fucking death and stopped paying attention. I wouldn't have been surprised if the camera panned over and he was lying down asleep or sat down on a chair. If that doesn't sum the game up, nothing will. I just don't know if he was bored because he had nothing to do or because he was watching the game.

Given the circumstances, a draw was just. West Brom are a bitch of a team to beat and with the missing players and Mike 'the blind cunt' Dean, a draw isn't ideal but it was deserved. Whichever team won it, it would have been unfair.

I'll keep it brief. I'm sure some won't be popular but w/e,

1) Martial, Mhiki and Rashford haven't been good enough this season and it needs to be addressed.

2) The tactic of using a RW to cut inside, flooding the middle and allowing Valencia to run the flank has been worked out. Valencia has been pegged back, or simply double teamed a lot recently. Whoever is playing RW needs to stay on the outside. They don't need to be so wide, but certainly need to be on the outside.

3) Well done Fellaini. One of the very few to stand up and be counted in Pogba and Ibra's absence. We need more players with that attitude and less with Martial and Rashford's. Lingard has also tried to step up the last 2 games. Pleased with him.

4) Rashford needs to stop trying to be Ibra. Stop hanging back and cluttering play, stop giving the centre backs a free ride. Fucking run. Fucking pull the defense all over the shop. Give us a quick outball. Stretch the play. Give Mhiki, Lingard and Valencia something to aim for, pressure Foster when he's time-wasting, make diagonals. Just fucking do something.

5) There are very, very few leaders in the team. It's frustrating but it's a young team. That said I think we need one or two more 26-30 year old players this summer and less 19-23 year olds.

This is on JM and the the players. No need to for both Carrick and Fellaini for 90 mins, teams will start doubling up on Tony V so we need Shaw or Blind back in at lb, also rooney was pathetic its very concerning that we dont really have a pattern of play

[–]WildBuffalo 1 ポイント2 ポイント  (3子コメント)

Carrick and Fellaini played the full 90 because the plan was always to go to 1 in midfield, and stick Fellaini up front if we still need a goal at 75-80 mins. That is what happened.

You can't do that if Fellaini has been subbed off, or if you'd be asking Willock to play in midfield alone, on his debut. God, this sub... There's plenty of criticisms of how Mou approached this game and what changes he should have made, but this is retarded.

and btw, how does playing Shaw or Blind at LB stop teams doubling up on Valencia? Teams double up on Valencia because Mou's tactic all season has been to use Mata/Mhiki/Lingard and let them drift in. Teams have realized that and if you make sure someone in the centre is tracking that cut inside, then you have 2vs1 in attack and defense vs Valencia. It's been an issue for about 5 weeks now.

[–]danskzwag -1 ポイント0 ポイント  (2子コメント)

There was no need for a full 90 when mosty all we were doing is crossing . Blind has been a very goo outlet from the left and Shaw is a better fullback than Young. He should have taken one of fellaini or carrick off

[–]WildBuffalo 0 ポイント1 ポイント  (1子コメント)

So what was the alternative? Bring on a kid for his debut and let him play in midfield alone, or take off Fellaini, who was honestly our best chance of scoring against West Brom? You said yourself the only attacking option on the bench was 'pathetic' so Fellaini absolutely should not have gone off and Carrick could not have gone off.

Didn't answer how Blind/Shaw stops Valencia being double-teamed either.

He was really bad yesterday, but I think he's been pretty good over the past few months, given context.

We haven't looked great as a team since the fatigue and massive fixture congestion set in, though.
