This was pretty obvious by the fact that 90% of the content here is "this person misunderstood socialism" and a thread saying something as incredibly uncontroversial as "Hilary Clinton is, in fact, a Democrat" became a shit-slinging fest of what it really means to be a Leftist.

But anway, that's a pretty cool find there OP.

I'm not an anarchist though, I'm a Trotskyist.

Oh, come on. That thread was fucking ridiculous. The posted comment obviously didn't mean Clinton wasn't a member of the Democratic Party, it was intentional hyperbole. You can't not know that, stop posting about it.

obviously didn't mean Clinton wasn't a member of the Democratic Party, it was intentional hyperbole

And the post discussing it wasn't about whether she was literally a member of the Democratic Party or not. The quote claimed she was a "moderate Republican", which nobody, including the OP, took as meaning she was literally a member of the Republican party, but that she held stances that a moderate Republican would hold. The OP argued that, in fact, Hillary is, if anything, on the left half of the Democratic Party.

Do you personally think someone with Hillary's stances would be welcomed into the Republican Party? It doesn't even need to be the current Republican Party, pick any year in which you think Hillary would be embraced by moderate Republicans. Now pick a year where the Democratic Party would be too far left for Clinton. I honestly want to hear what you think.

And just because it was intentional hyperbole doesn't mean it wasn't perpetuating the bad (terrible) politics of "Both parties are the same!!!" nor does it mean it wasn't based on a terrible reading of politics in America. If Hillary is a moderate Republican, that means more than half of Democrats are also moderate republicans, which kind of indicates you might have a slight misreading of what moderate republicans and democrats actually stand for.

I mean yeah, it turns out that people who are educated in history, politics, and anthropology tend to be on the radical left. I don't find this at all surprising

Sounds about right. As a conservative it's pretty glaringly obvious how extremely left leaning 90% of Reddit is. However I still consider an-coms better than an-caps because at an-coms have some sort of cohesiveness to their philosophy.

Check out the ancapistan meme sometime, they're hilarious.

Please, show me this magical left-leaning reddit you've found, because mine is plugged up by sexism, racism, and all kinds of bigotry.

^^^ I hear this all of the time but outside of /r/politics everyone on reddit seems to lean heavily into the "I'm not sexist but" ideology

Reddit's divided. A lot of it is conventionally liberal as hell, but a lot of it (less, I think) is "good lord!"-tier liberal or conservative (the world's gone mad!), and then you have the /r/imgoingtomyroomfothis wannabe-/pol/acks.

Sure, a lot of reddit is left leaning, but not anarchist. The prevalance of anarchism specifially here is interesting.

Europeans tend to think reddit is right wing, Americans tend to think it is left wing.

I mean I don't think left wing vs right wing really means all that much a lot of the time, but still, kinda figures.

The meta subs typically are filled with socialists/anarchists as well as the more ridiculous "progressive" types. It's pretty common with this site.

Well, it depends. I think reddit likes populist left economics for the most part, but varies heavily on their views regarding minorities, women, and LGBTQ people (especially the T). Some places, like /r/politics, are basically double left there, but to an extent, t_D is a mixture of that populism in terms of rhetoric with the conservative economics and fascist views on minorities, etc.

While I wouldn't call the Donald facsist, that hits the nail on the head

IDK, the only other people I had seen using the term "racial realism" were fascists or white supremacists or KKK members, but that could be people trying to infiltrate T_D.

There's some crossover there, with some race realist content and comments get upvoted, but t_d tends to get up in arms about being described as such. This is nothing new, what with the controversies before the election over mods who were blatantly tied to altright, Red Pill, etc.

I don't think reddit is very left-leaning. The default subs are mostly right-leaning, although r/bad(study) subs tend to be left-leaning.

Most of reddit is liberal sprinkled with a bit of neoliberals and straight up white supremacists. Liberals aren't leftist. Communists, socialists (not to be confused with social democrats), and anarchists(ancaps don't count, because capitalism still requires heirarchy) are the left, and I barely ever see much of them on the two default subs I merely tolerate being subscribed to(know thine enemy).
