I love catching up on relationship / baby drama sometimes to remind me of what I'm missing out on (lol). It's like an injection of endorphins and relaxants. Because I'll never have that weight on top of me. But there's one phrase that makes me half-rage inside. "Step up and be a dad", "step up to the plate....", "step up and take responsibility".
The level of arrogance behind that statement, usually from a lazy layabout single mother, demanding a man GIVE HER MONEY NOW. He doesn't even need to be the father. She still expects him to "step up to the plate" and pick up the slack from chad, and be dam thankful of it. I have never once seen the woman's input questioned. She just is.. She relies on the audience looking at her like a child, but at the same time an adult.
She can't even take care of herself. She'd literally die if it weren't for the welfare system and court-ordered CS payments. She holds ALL the power to terminate the pregnancy, but she doesn't, because she's infantalised. The man needs to bear the entire weight of her child-like irresponsibility and lack of forethought to the future.
Fuck it feels good to know I'll never, ever hear the words "step up". No, you go fuck yourself.
