- AHCA approval is strongest among men over 50 (36%) and seniors over 65 (31%).
- Just over half of Republicans (56%) favor their party’s alternative. On the other hand, 95% of Democrats and 80% of Independents disapprove of the GOP’s health care alternative.
- Over one-third of Republicans (34%) disapprove of the legislation.
“With moderate congressional Republicans who halted the fate of AHCA last week, it will be imperative for the GOP leadership to investigate the preferences of its constituents in their pursuit of a successful health care alternative to ACA,” says Villacis.
Polling Methodology
The survey was conducted online from March 27-29, 2017 among 1,062 Americans nationwide. In order to achieve an accurate demographic representation of the public, the data were weighted to U.S. Census benchmarks for gender, age, race, education, region and national benchmarks for party identification. The margin of error for the full sample is 3.01 percentage points, and is higher for subgroups.
