Two lawyers diverged in the blustery north
And sad you can not retain both
You take the one who knows the judge
And that will make all the difference.

There once were two lawyers named Dan

Who lived in ol' Canuckistan

One knew the judge

the other wouldn't budge

so OP came here for a plan

Rules around this are surprisingly lax
And of course-- it'll depend on the facts
We can wisely opine
Only later to find
OP murdered his wife with an axe.

When hiding your bloodstain'd axe

And avoiding those worrisome facts

Pick a lawyer that's close

(I hear Saul is verbose)

And do it before the lawman attacks!

Let's ignore what OP probably did to his wife
And cut to the real issue, as if with a knife
If his lawyer should fail
OP's in Canadian jail
Will he be serving time in real life?

So the lawyer from my city is an advantage?

Can you tell me why this is so?

I've tried to think but I can't manage

please help and some timmies i'd owe!

The long arm of the law is quite forceful
And criminal charges can screw up your life
So it helps if the judge feels remorseful
For banging defense counsel's wife

Justice will not be so easily found

In OP's small little Canadian town

If his counsel got seen

Pounding little Lurleen

(The judge's daughter) in her gown

Now that we've gotten our kicks
Let's get real; they're not all backwoods hicks
The best way to proceed
Likely depends on the deed
What did you do, /u/vienna66?

Though we have spoken thus far in verse

And we would not want your case to have taint

Poetry is fun, but as a general rule

We'd really love a diagram in Paint!

I have included a diagram in paint

with many complex details to make it clear

Just kidding this is basically unrelated

but this accurately portrays my fear

Keep in mind in the post i said small case

I definitely did not axe murder my wife

I love the internet too much to want a taste

of imprisonment for twenty five to life

I'm glad to hear you didn't kill
Your wife to see the splatter
But even lopping off her arm
Is still no laughing matter.

The judge and jury lay down the laws

But every town's got different a way

(Some might give you some pause)

And the local knows what to say.

[–]SorthumQuality Contributor 2 ポイント3 ポイント  (2子コメント)

Locals have one additional power
And if OP is rather astute
He'll note lawyers charge by the hour
And yes-- that includes the commute.

[–]bug-hunterQuality Contributor 2 ポイント3 ポイント  (1子コメント)

A lawyer does not just commute

He also will have some expenses

Today these poems sound cute

Until OP has to pawn his lenses.

[–]SorthumQuality Contributor 1 ポイント2 ポイント  (0子コメント)

You're getting a smidgen off topic
And I think if you dig you will find
If OP has to sell off his optics
Not a problem, since justice is blind

IANAL.

I'm sorry I don't have a poem for you.

I'll share the wisdom from one of my professors: a good lawyer knows the law; a great lawyer knows the judge. I'd go with the local lawyer who knows the judges and the Crowns; the other advantage is that with the local, you're not paying for an out-of-towner's travel time.

Your contributions are strong and well spoken
As a result we are rarely at odds
But your lyrical pattern is broken
So I reported your post to the mods.

[–]bug-hunterQuality Contributor 2 ポイント3 ポイント  (0子コメント)

Sadly IANAL is the wrong acronym.

IANAP is what you are looking for.

I'm going to go out on a limb

And report your post once more.

It's alright, I appreciate the response! That's a good point! (still reported)
