When choosing between two defense lawyers (ON, Canada) (self.legaladvice)

For a small criminal defense case, would you say a defense lawyer that is from out of town versus one from the city the case takes place in would be advantageous to prevent any possible bias? I am trying to choose right now and I'm not sure if this is a factor. (I'm thinking like, what if this lawyer has a bad reputation with the crown etc, whereas a lawyer from a different city whose offered to help would not bring any previous bias)

OR, would you say this isn't usually a concern?

And criminal charges can screw up your life
So it helps if the judge feels remorseful

I'm sorry I don't have a poem for you.

I'll share the wisdom from one of my professors: a good lawyer knows the law; a great lawyer knows the judge. I'd go with the local lawyer who knows the judges and the Crowns; the other advantage is that with the local, you're not paying for an out-of-towner's travel time.
