Petition to the Government of Canada

Whereas:
  • On March 10, 2017, the Government House Leader released a discussion paper regarding changes to the Standing Orders of the House of Commons;
  • Proposed changes in this discussion paper include eliminating Friday sessions of the House of Commons, permanent limits to debate in the House of Commons and Standing Committees, and the Prime Minister being required to answer questions on only one day a week in the House of Commons; and
  • Transparency of Government operations and the ability for all Members of Parliament to hold the Government to account are of paramount importance to the functioning of Canadian democracy.
We, the undersigned, citizens and residents of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to adhere to longstanding Parliamentary tradition and procedure and not force any changes to the Standing Orders of the House of Commons outlined in the above mentioned discussion paper without the unanimous consent of all political Parties currently represented in the House of Commons.
