Rep. Charlie Dent on Report That Trump Told Him He’s ‘Destroying’ the GOP: ‘I’m Not Gonna Deny That’

Congressman Charlie Dent today did not deny a report that President Trump told him that he’s “destroying the Republican party” during a discussion on health care before the bill was pulled from the House floor.

An in-depth piece from New York Times Magazine today features this little snippet from one of Trump’s meetings with Republicans to try and find unity on the AHCA:

Later in the day, Trump hosted another meeting with the moderates, where Representative Charlie Dent of Pennsylvania informed Trump that he remained a “no.” According to an attendee, Trump angrily informed Dent that he was “destroying the Republican Party” and “was going to take down tax reform — and I’m going to blame you.”

On Meet the Press today, Chuck Todd asked Dent if that actually happened.

Dent responded, “I’m not gonna deny that.”

He said that he listened respectfully to the president, but made it clear he still felt there was too much discussion about “arbitrary deadlines” and not enough about how the legislation would impact the American people.
