One rarely challenged belief is the pursuit of happiness. It's even in our declaration of independence.

Happiness is an emotion. Like all other emotions it's shallow and fleeting. So why then, does it seem our collective goal is to optimize an emotion? Because it's a lie to bind men in slavery.
