Playing Psy High is really disconcerting. I made a character, slotted into someone I wanted to play, and started running with it. And then I realized that, regardless of my stated gender and name, the game was more or less ignoring that and putting me into the social role of a high school girl. It’s a good, interesting game. And it’s strange and interesting to be told that my reactions are things that are alien to me, and I was never forced to confront, because despite having mostly female friends, few of them went through the “normal high school girl experience.” One girl hates me because I hosted a bigger birthday party than her, when I was 12!
